Yeah yeah, I'm running Vista.
And I want to play an older game.
And I'm not particularly computer literate.
Help?
So I've tried to install Medieval Total War a few times and get some pretty crazy results. Sometimes it's the usual crashing after loading. Sometimes the battle engine starts up and I get some arbitrary graphical errors. Does anyone have any advice on getting this game to work without having to do anything fancy pants to my computer?

Re: Medieval Total War on Vista
Have you installed the latest update for it? Sometimes these games are slightly more compatible with their latest patches.
Once you have the latest patch installed, right click on the shortcut, click properties and go to compatibility. For old games you should choose windows 2000, try all the options though and see if it improves.
Failing that you really should upgrade to Windows 7 Pro/Ultimate, for the XP mode, but it's just a more robust operating system. I've found a lot of software and games crash much less on Windows 7 Pro x64. I thought that I had a problem with my HD4870 graphics card because it was always crash (and I mean 100% every single time) when using OpenGL. I upgraded to Windows 7 Pro x64 and the issue disappeared instantly. I've never had a single problem with it since.
If you are a student (or a teacher, thankfully it doesn't discriminate, you just need an education address), or know somebody with an education email address you can get Windows 7 Pro for as little as £/$40. It says it's an upgrade, but you don't need a previous version of Windows on your computer. I installed it on a completely blank hard drive and it accepted the key and it's completely WGA verified.

If you're getting graphical glitches, have you checked and updated your video drivers to the latest versions?
