Any particular reason to own a Famicom/Super Famicom?
I have always thought about this for awhile. I have been thinking about getting a Famicom or a Super Famicom and then I always ask myself why? I already own a NES and SNES. I own a little over 100 NES games and have a fair amount of SNES games. I thought I would ask here since I know a lot of you guys have NES/SNES and Fami/Super famicoms. Are there a bunch of games that were released for the Famicom and Superfamicom that were only released in Japan? Did you get if for collection purposes only? Just wanted to know your motive to get the systems. Another reason I want to get a famicom is the Famicom Disk system, which really intrigues me since it uses disks.

SFC games work on NTSC SNES. Just cut some tabs in the console itself and they work right away.

Aside from looks, you don't need a SFC. You can play any SFC game on a SNES easily. The SFC does look pretty cool though, and I almost got one for that reason. But than I decided, if I ever decide to, I should get a PAL SNES instead. I can already play SFC games on my SNES, but I can't play PAL games. The PAL SNES looks just like a SFC and I'd get more use out of it.
Anyways, I can see a lot of reasons to get a Famicom. I keep going back and forth about whether I should get one or not. First off, it's different hardware. FC games allowed for third party mappers while the NES didn't. For example, Konami developed an 'extremely advanced' memory mapper for Castlevania 3 that allowed for (from what I read) really great music using digital samples of instruments as well as improved graphics. This memory mapper couldn't be used in the NES version, so it isn't as good in those areas. I'm sure there's other games with similar things as this.
Secondly, you can get a Famicom Disk System which is pretty damn cool. I don't believe there are any games for it that didn't make its way to cart form, but the system is suppose to be a little more advanced.

Dont know much about the Disk System but SMB2 (The Real one) was release for the disk system, thus never get a official cart release. Also the Disk System usually has features over there cart counterparts (Saving, etc).Secondly, you can get a Famicom Disk System which is pretty damn cool. Also on the Famicom version of Donkey Kong 3 you blew into the controller, same in Zelda (You made a loud noise)

Does anyone know if it works the other way around, too? Can you play SNES games on a SFC?
My game-related blog.

You CAN play SNES games on a SFC, the problem is that the American SNES carts are too wide for SFC (and PAL SNES, for that matter) cart slot. There's work arounds for this.

If you had a passthrough that fit into the SFami, yes.fingersmaloy wrote: Does anyone know if it works the other way around, too? Can you play SNES games on a SFC?

I have just recently started collecting fc/sfc games and there are quite a few really cool ones we never got like:
FC
konami wai wai world 1 and 2
sweet home
recca 92
and most importantly the Kunio Kun games (I'm sure you know of the one titled river city ransom stateside.) there are dozens of those including my personal favorite nes/fc game
Nekketsu Kakutou Densetsu which is literally smash bros for the nes. Here is a great video of it.
SFC
go go ackman 1 2 3
Mickey and Donal Magical adventure 3
Hamelin no Violin Tamaki
the Ganbare Goemon games
Mario and Wario
Majyuuou
I mean most of the reason we are classic gamers is our love and appreciation of games being played the way they were intended. Buy some import consoles and get cracking on all these great hidden classics!!!
