Re: The first time you played a video game,
I believe that the first video game I ever played was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the Amiga, of all things. I was only about three years old, so I'm not even sure if I actually remember it or if I'm making memories up -- I do have very fond memories of playing a TON of DOOM with my father a little bit later on in life. Sometime after that I played the original Double Dragon arcade machine in my local comic shop with my father, and then Street Fighter II and the Simpsons Arcade Game not too long afterwards. I was fascinated by video games, especially since my father was so into them and I looked up to him so much. The game that turned me into a real gamer though was actually a collection of games -- on my fifth birthday I got a Sega Genesis with the Genesis 6-Pak included and dear God, the amount of time my sister and I spent on Sonic the Hedgehog, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, Revenge of Shinobi, Super Hang-On, and Columns was staggering.

We already have a similar post, but okay here is my repeat of a repeat.

Local bowling Alley, my teen years.
Really, when these first appeared,
Pong and Space Wars.

Cannot describe awe of experiencing very first Arcade. Pong was okay, but Space Wars hooked me.
I had close to same feeling years later spending hours "flying" in Space Harrier Motion Chair.
Pong had two "Volume Knobs" for controls.
Vector Space Wars had "Adding Machine Keys" for controls.
Very cool how you could program speed and gravity before start of game.
Spaceship could sustain damage and either fly slower or not at all and still shoot.
Experienced pair of players started the game flying CBS Eye opening, banking around Sun and shooting.
Today I can play it on Mame and Vectrex. Space Harrier on PS2, no motion chair yet though.
As far as 1st owned game, Atari 2600 Combat, few years later.
Can't remember my 100th, might have hit a 1000th by now?

Re: The first time you played a video game,
I had a Colecovision back in the early 80s, which is when I first started playing for long periods of time. I think Zaxxon and Donkey Kong were my first games for that system. I'm sure I played arcade machines before that though, but I couldn't tell you what was the first one I played. I know I would have begun playing sometime in the early 80s, so it was probably something like Asteroids, Space Invaders, or Pac Man. I remember playing all of those on their original arcade cabs as a kid.

Re: The first time you played a video game,
I think my first time was BREAKOUT on my cousin's 5200 way back in the day. My first arcade experience was Spy Hunter. I remember that clearly. The first time I was blown away by a game was Ghouls n Ghosts for Genesis. I got a Genesis for xmas and once I hooked it up to play Ghouls n Ghosts, I couldn't believe my eyes. The graphics were beautiful, and a far cry from one of my favorite NES games, Ghosts n Goblins.
Re: The first time you played a video game,
I have fond memories of sitting on my dads lap while 'we' played Kings Quest and all those classic adventures.
Growing up I always got my brothers old consoles, generally I couldn't play his (He was 5 years older than me and a total dick) I think this was one of the massive reasons I became so into retro consoles.

Re: The first time you played a video game,
No idea. Grew up with an atari 2600 and a pong machine. 2600 had at least a dozen games, so not sure which one was the first.
Re: The first time you played a video game,
Oh man, when it comes to remembering the first game I played, I remember King's Quest.
I'm not sure which one, but I'm pretty sure it was in 1997, when I was 3. We had one of those crappy computers that couldn't do much, but King's Quest was one of those games we could run perfectly.
Since I was only 3, I didn't know what the hell I was doing, but I had fun just roaming around the land listening to some of the music.

Well it blurs together now, but it was probably playing a cocktail cabinet of ms. pac-man/galaga in a local Rocky Rococo's Pizza and the purchase by my father of an Atari 2600. Then from there I became the nerd I am today.

Re: The first time you played a video game,
I do believe it was 1989 or 1990, I remember seeing my brother play the NES, I always watched him play, until I have the chance to play it myself, I do think the first game I played was Punch-Out. Since then, I played nearly every game we owned at the time (changing the game every 3 minutes...in order everytime), and as everyone say "The rest is history".
