The modification would have to be done to the board, not the TV or the Saturn, correct?

Anyways, I'm actually finding other items that can do what the Hori Upscan Converter would do for me. Apparently the Hori is so old that it's not really available anymore. But things like this are

Can you give a link? How much?

As far as the solder work, not the console or JROK board just making up the custom video cable to connect everything. Plus additional 5 volt power supply for the JROK.

It's roughly $80 on amazon.co.jp. Unlike another box I found, I don't think it requires the use of a PC. It appears to be S-Video in, VGA out. At this point, that's just what I want. If amazon.co.jp is willing to ship it to NA, I may be able to afford it next month.

Edit:

You may also find information here:

http://www.iodata.jp/product/tv/convert ... 2/spec.htm

Note that the technical language may be different. For example, VGA is referred to as "Analog RGB," although it refers to the 15 pin connector in the back.

Edit: It can display things at higher resolutions than the Hori Upscan Converter 2, so that's a plus.

Thanks for the link. With the S-Video input might just work. I can't decipher the Kanji, couldn't find the shipping cost from Japan. Also did not see volt requirement unless its that 100v AC, may need a 220v to 110v step down.

The shipping cost wouldn't be listed unless you checked out. I know Amazon doesn't ship games from Japan (they abide by the "NOT FOR SALE OUTSIDE JAPAN" or whatever things), but they may be able to ship this. I expect shipping to cost as much as $20.

It's 100v AC (ACアダプター AC100V・DC12V/0.6A), but I'm in America so it's no problem. My Japanese Sega Saturn plugs in directly to the socket.

It looks like a reasonable way of creating an S-Video port on my TV. That's basically what I want done, and this looks like it will do it.

Okay, I am not trying to be stupid here. I have scanned over most of the posts and I get the impression that what you are trying to do is to convert s-video to VGA. Is this right? If so, why not just a simple converter like this one for $69 with free shipping:

http://www.svideo.com/video2vga1.html

Features:
- Composite Video Input
- S-Video Input
- VGA Input for VGA Pass-Through
- VGA Output at 800x600 at 60Hz and 75Hz, 1024x768 at 60Hz
- VGA Wide Screen Output 1280x720 at 60HZ, 1440x900 at 60HZ, 1600x900 at 60HZ, 1680x1050 at 60Hz
- NTSC/PAL Video Format Auto Detection

I'm sure that someone will let me know if I missed something.

That is a great price. Unsure if it will transcode to proper screen size. For a computer monitor great, due to zoom capabilities of the computer monitor. LCD might work if it will zoom the pic to full size..

Because I am using a Japanese Saturn and using EUR RGB Scart cables and everything works fine.

You can also use the Transcoder in Japan..it will work fine with the power supply i mentioned.
I mean a Japanese Saturn. But what transcoder are you using? The one I listed? As for a power supply, I'm sure I could find some sort of step down converter ...

I'm a little weary of the item because it doesn't support Japanese or American format NTSC. Can anyone else provide their opinion on the matter?
This is the 1 I am using.

I can tell you with 100% certainty that this works awesome. You DO NOT need a step down converter for this if you live in US/Canada or even Japan. It will run fine. Just make sure you get a power supply for the unit with the specs I mentioned above.

I've been running a Japanese Saturn and a Japanese Duo-r which are both rated 100V here and there have been no problems whatsoever.

I'm running that setup on a 40 Samsung 1080P Lcd.

If you wanna go the S-video route for Saturn thats not a bad idea either since it would be cheaper but it is still inferior picture wise. The best way to describe playing Saturn/Genesis/Duo/dreamcast with this converter is that it looks like you are running an emulator on your tv using the "double" filter. A good idea is to turn down the sharpness though to practically zero because it will help smooth it out a bit.

Here a some pics i took running on my TV.

As for the "Ultra Small Video to VGA Converter,"

That looks like it might be a better solution! As for "transcoding to the proper screen size," 800x600 works just fine on my LCD. I've already tested WachenRoder through an emulator in that resolution and the picture was perfect. I have to go now, but I'll compare the two later.

The smaller item definitely goes for a better price (and size), but with the VABox2 I'm able to see user reviews (generally very good), and I'm not sure which one works better. If I've noticed anything it's that the higher end the item, the larger it tends to be.

Edit: That SCART to Component box may be a viable option as well. I'll post a comparison of all 3 when I get home tonight.
