What did you feel like, it can be anywhere, arcade, console, that is unimportant.
When I first played my Psone, I was just a kid, I was happy with my new toy, but I lost interest fast, In fact, I spent many years not playing games at all, but then something changed, I bought my ps3 and I found myself actually enjoying the games more than I ever had, I say that this was the first time I played a game for REAL.
Your stories?

Re: The first time you played a video game,
Well, I believe that I was 5 years old and I was wandering outside and goofing off. I went into our garage, and after poking around for a bit I noticed a large gray box, or rather an NES. I brought it to my dad and asked him what it did, so he hooked it up to the small TV in his room and I got to play it. The first game I played was Super Mario Bros 2, and I never looked back after that.
Re: The first time you played a video game,
1992 I was 4 or 5 and it was christmas. My brother was always playing sports games on his sega genesis. I would get so jealous cause I wanted to play so bad but I hated sports games. Then on this magical christmas my brother handed me a gift. It said from Shannon to Cory I opened it up and I had been given my own copy of sonic the hedgehog 2! I played it all day I forgot about my other gifts that was the only one that mattered. I wouldn't be the gamer I am today if it weren't for my bro so I say thank you to him
I still have that exact same copy of the game he gave me with box the books missing though damn my grubby little kids hands back in the day

It must've been something like 1992 or so.
I think it was Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure? Or Commander Keen 2.
Good times, those old Apogee titles.

If each mistake being made is a new one, then progress is being made.

Pong in 1975. Remember sat on a wooden chair a few feet away from a 14" black and white televison, playing Pong - made your eyes hurt after a little while though as the white of the bat made your eyes hurt, but worst was the large white "ball" that left a trail of light behind it!
I remember vaguely playing the Atari 2600 when my father bought it when it was released; although best memories of first console being played was when the Intellivision came out, must have been 1980; have fond memories of playing those games and beating my father at the games hands down (eg hockey, tennis, etc) that he used to throw his controller about in frustration - my reactions were so much faster than his!
Interestingly enough, i'm about 2 years younger than he was at the time (Intellivision), and I still have good reactions in games (although age slows you down a bit of course).
So, in my case, technically, Pong; have some memories of Atari 2600, however vivid and good memories of the Intellivison; which is why I have recently got a few of those consoles and games, to "re-live" the memories of classics like Night Stalker, Astrosmash, Tron discs, and others!

Geez you KIDS here (well, not all of you)... Pong was technically my first game, but I remember playing pac-man in the arcade while my father held me up until he was able to get a chair for me to stand on. It was a lot different from the usual pinball machines I liked at the time. 1982 or so I guess...I was 7. Funny thing, I just found my old LP of "Pac-Man Fever" while cleaning crap out from my parents house. Dad bought the 2600 and I've been an addict ever since.

Re: The first time you played a video game,
I was in foster-care; when their oldest son purchased a Commodore 64
was one of the absolute first in Sweden to get one; so it must've been '83 or so
the first game was either H.E.R.O. or Get of my garden; both great titles (Activision, of course; at least H.E.R.O.)
since then my foster-family bought a Commodore 64 for "everyone to play with"; and I've not stopped gaming since
needless to say; my first "console" was an Atari 2600; but that was later (strangely enough, but I've always been a couple of steps behind the current-gen)

I honestly have no idea, since I was so young and my brother had games. I started really getting into NES around first grade and playing stuff like Kirby's Adventure, Crystalis, Castlevania, and Duck Tales.

Re: The first time you played a video game,
I think around 1986 or 87. my next door neighbor built a game room with a lot of famicoms on their big mansion for all the kids in the neighborhood. i forgot how much we have to pay to play but i believe if i give him two coins i could play for 30 mins. i think the first game i played was mario bros. followed by super mario bros. and the real super mario bros. 2 (lost level). my brother and i kept going back for more since it was just next door. oh the sweet childhood memories.

Chop Lifter on my cousins Atari-whatev. I always longed for that game on our family
Apple ][c. By the time we obtained it for the Apple, Nes had taken over our lives (sister and I) and I just wasn't quite as excited for Chop Lifter anymore.
