Sony has said that they will be removing the ability to install Linux on the PS3 in an update arriving this Thursday, most likely due to the hack that has just been released for the system by GeoHot. The update will not include any new features, and you will not be able to play games that require the update, or connect to the internet if you choose no to update.

What do I think of this? I have a suspicion that it's just an April Fool's Joke, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if it is real. It seems like exactly the kind of thing Sony would do. I actually use Linux on my PS3 every now and then. It's quite useful. So, obviously, this is very angering news.
