Ok so i got a boxed ps3 slim that i knew was having drive problems for 75.00
Heres the diagnosis....When i insert a disc whether its a dvd, bluray dvd, ps3 game or ps1 game the disc inserts then makes a cliking noise then 2 seconds pass and it makes the same clicking noise and the disc wont read. Ive insterted discs about 50 times. 1 out of 25 times it will only click once which is i think how it is supposed to be and the disc will read and the game loads fine. But if it clicks twice then it doesnt spin and wont play. Most of the time that is the case. Now i see lots of lasers on ebay but i wonder if i need the whole drive assembly which i havent been able to find?
PS3 Slim Drive Problem
Re: PS3 Slim Drive Problem
You can just replace the laser of the drive with another laser assembly. You have to dismantle the PS3. There's plenty of guides on the internet that details this process. I've heard it's pretty easy if you're handy with computer repairs.

Re: PS3 Slim Drive Problem
but do you think the drive is good and its just the laser? Also please note guys everytime i run it in safe mode and try to correct drive problems it says the drive is corrupted. Everytime it says that even after disc drive repair

Re: PS3 Slim Drive Problem
It could be either the drive controller or the laser. The only surefire way of fixing it is by replacing the entire BD drive. Most of the time this problem is fixed by replacing the laser. I'd try the laser fix first, it's fairly cheap (a hell of a lot cheaper than sending it to Sony). In the UK you can get them for around £40. If you don't want to do it yourself then there's a lot of repair shops (in the UK at least, I'm sure there's some in your country too) who do it for around £70-80 for parts and labour.
Nothing else I can really advise you, if you took it to Sony they will only just give you another refurbed model and you will lose everything on your PS3 that doesn't get backed up with the 'Backup and Sync' method that Sony recommends on their website.

You probably already did, apologies gotta ask.
Sometimes in frustration, basic steps get missed.
Most likely won't help, can't hurt.
Clean that laser with Alcohol/ Cotton Q-tip?
