Looking more into that other item I was considering, more reviews have led me to believe that it's an unreliable piece of hardware.
From a price point, I'd have to agree.

The only other better option would be SCART->VGA upscaling via an XRGB2. But your price entry point would be 4-5 times the cost of the HORI option, and for that sort of money you could probably just start saving for a TV with SCART/S-Video input. :)

I'm trying to upgrade my Saturn's video quality, too. Right now, it's connected to an HDTV with composite... quite literally, not a pretty picture. I what I'm going to do is hit two birds with one stone; I've been meaning to connect my Genesis via scart as well, so I'm going to get a scart-to-hdmi converter/transcoder so I can play it on my NTSC TV. I was originally going to go for the scart-to-component box, but I would have to pay for a separate audio breakout for that.

I could be wrong here, so anyone who knowns more please correct me. If you get a xrgb you should be able to input scart, and output vga. It'll do scaling and scanline emulation for you also so it should come out looking real nice. That'd be kinda pricey though, $200+. But they're supposed to be very good, and you can use it for lots of systems. Compared to other video hardware like it they're pretty cheap even.

Oh yeah, if you are still on edge regarding the Sabrent VGA box, I just realized its up on amazon.com:

49 reviews, 4 out of 5 stars.

I'd say read through the reviews to see if they are talking about particulars that you are interested in.
If you aren't having a good time, why are you playing?

Seeing threads like this make me glad I still game on my 27" Phillips SDTV CRT. But it also makes me realize I need to get on the ball and collect some of this equipment, myself. My CRT won't be around forever and it is getting increasingly difficult to find them new.

When using an upscaler, what kind of lag is experienced?

How can I get S-Video into my HDTV without having to spend over $100? My TV has Component (which doubles as Composite), VGA, and HDMI input.
Hard to believe no S-Video input, what is the model number of your TV?
Read my signature link, lot of info and links there. Hope it helps.

My buddy has a LCD without S-Video inputs... I have seen others. The industry appears to be phasing the port out.

I don't know if you've heard of it, but it outputs VGA and my TV has S-Video input.

Tackling everything at once,

My TV doesn't have S-Video input it has VGA input and that was a typo, sorry! Must have been thinking about S-video ... accidentally typed S-Video. As for things being "phased out," If my TV is any sign, composite may be phased out as well. My TV doesn't have separate composite and component inputs - you just plug into component and the TV "switches modes." A little worrying, but at the same time I think my TV is a stripped down model for sale at a cheaper price.

As for the Sabrent, it has 2 and a half stars on amazon. o_o;

Anything over $100 is really over my price range. It's also a big price to pay to keep up a Sega Saturn. I took a look at a Japanese comparison between the two and I didn't see the XRGB-3 being such a huge difference that I needed to buy it. Maybe in the future when there are no composite inputs it would be a wise investment. But what about the XRGB-2? I might be able to find a decent price on that on yahoo in the coming months.

My model number, for those wondering, is LN22C350 ... specifically with a D1D after it.

Edit: Here are images showing the difference between the HUpSC2 and the XRGB-2

Looks like the HUpSC2 does a pretty good job, but the XRGB-2 is clearer.

Geeze I was upset my HD didn't have VGA for Dreamcast. But no S-Video for Retro Consoles that bites.

Okay found your owners manual, if you want the PDF click below. Samsung LN22C350 Owners Manual
http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/conte ... 2_0203.pdf

The first two pics tell me you would definitely don't want to go that route. See all the "sharp" dots that look like a comic book? That on moving video results in "Dot Crawl", really looks bad. I would stick with composite over that.

First two pics look to be from a LCD with Dot Crawl. The second set of pics look great, is that LCD or CRT?

Another probably better route. Your Saturn can put out RGB. Keep the video separated.
Maybe try for RGB to Component Transcoder for the best pic on your Saturn.
Did you get a chance to read my signature link?
