Gamer's Hookup

Post by KellyB »

Hey guys! I don't know about you, but my friends aren't as much into gaming as I am. Sure, they'll come over and play some Mario Kart, Street Fighter, or some Wii, but most of the time I find myself playing single player. (And no that's not a euphemism for . . . uh . . . never mind. . . .)

Anyway, I thought it might be a good idea if we post some basic info to try and hookup with local gamers, either at an arcade, on-line, or even at someone's house!

Nothing too personal, but a general idea of where you're at so people nearby can PM you and you guys can hook up to play some Secret of Mana co-op, Goldeneye Rockets Only, or be the first two-player team to finally beat Battletoads! (My friend and I still try. )

So, I'll start:

Name: Kelly
Age: 24
Location: Baltimore, MD, USA
PSN Tag: Snapdragons

I'm into fighting games, shmups, co-op sidescrollers, Wii sports, beat'em ups, and I even have Weapons and Warriors Pirate/Caste Siege Hybrid set for an epic battle that'll be pasted down for ages in legends . . . or, at least, the balls will be found under the couch a year after having played. :p

Currently Playing: Resident Evil 5 Gold (PS3), Chrono Trigger (SNES), Conker's Bad Fur Day (N64), and the waiting game . . . for my Gold n' Wood Neo Geo. :)

I'm all for this kind of thing but I think a general uneasiness about it still hovering around. Not sure what you can do about that... I think most people here are genuine but you never know for sure. I think this is where Facebook might come in handy, because you can't really navigate these forums well enough to find your area and who likes to get together and play.

Perhaps more work can be done here about creating a section where people can find each other and play together easily. But I think that might be asking too much. Just try to find people by their avatar locations and PM them to see if they want to play?

I don't see a problem with us organizing a meetup or something. If enough people are involved then perhaps we can reserve an arcade or some other public place.

I do realize that, ideally, people can just look at others profiles, but having to mill through all of them, a lot of which might not be active still . . .

I just thought it might be more convenient to have a single place people can let others know that they are in "such and such" area and want to "such and such."

If people are skeptical, I understand perfectly. It seems kinda like two steps forward one step back though when we also have a very popular B/S/T section. :)

I'm going to Funspot this summer for a long weekend. New England people should meet up or something for some classic arcade shit.

I'm in Haverhill, Ma.

I'd be up for this honestly, though I don't know how much good it would do me.

For instance, I only know of one other user in my area, and we both rather generically list "Denver" as our location, which can actually qualify a rather large area. We could be an hour's drive apart and still safely call it Denver, heh.

But hey, who knows, this could work out well for a few people.
