Burning FM Towns Backups

Post by pepharytheworm »

I am trying to burn back-ups to play on my FM Towns Marty but am having a lot of trouble. I tried using different burning programs: Alcohol 120%, Imgburn, Nero, and Clonecd. And many different sources for roms. I know that the ones that require a diskette are going to be difficult so I am mostly focusing on those that don't use one. Any help would be appreciated.

What happens when you try the games? I find that imgburn is my favorite program out of those to use, and if having any reading problems I use I high quality CD-R and a slow burn rate

It acts as if there is a non cd-rom disc in the FM Towns. It spins, the reading light blinks for a sec, and then nothing. I burn slow, 8x is the slowest mine burns. Right now the only cd-rs I have are verbatims but those worked for the sega cd, pc-fx, and Dreamcast. But to be honest I have not successfully burnt anything using Imgburn.

Will that Retro console play Music CDs and Music CDRs? Some older systems have a hard time reading CDRs.

Yes, its suppose to be able to read cd-rs. It plays music cds and the system even functions as a Kareoke machine. I tried my music cd-rs and it read all of them but had a hard time playing them. I could only get the first track to play sometimes. After several atempts I got my burnt copy of Fireshark to play once but couldn't get it to play again.

If the console is struggling to play all the tracks of a music CDR, I think the game CDR discs might prove more difficult. Cleaning lens might help but you may have to kick up that laser a little by adjusting the POT. Be careful, risk of frying that classic console permanently just to gain reliable CDR read though.

I got Splatter House and mad Stalker to work. I used clonecd and burned as protected pc.
I burnt a couple others that didn't work though. I have to add Mad stalker is awesome, the sound track is great and this game is to the FM Towns what Zenki is to the PC-FX in my view. A side scrolling beatemup that plays like a 2D fighter.

Since you did get a Game CDR to work then no need to touch that POT. Good news that laser can pick up CDR. No idea why some would burn and not others unless originals are scratched up.
