Safer to use PayPal to pay for items on other sites if you can as you don't need to submit your credit card details to someone new and hope their servers are secure with the information.

Only costs you if you receive funds from PayPal from external transactions.

Yes, it is annoying that PayPal charge so much to receive funds, and ebay too. They have a monopoly so behave as such, which is bad for the rest of us.

If you have a problem with an ebay transaction, like item not received, etc; phone ebay - if you have good standing on your account they will help you out there and then; in my experience anyway.

I ended up adding my credit card to my paypal account. Paid for the item (entirely with funds in the paypal account). Then removed the credit card immediately. I'm sure it's still on their servers somewhere, but at least it's not sitting there ready to be used (or abused).

Just recently I paid for something on DX by using a credit card through paypal, but without creating an account (or using my existing Paypal account). But it may be that this sort of thing is possible through DX or other sellers / receivers of funds, but not all of them (e.g. non-business sellers may not have the ability to do that).
