Sonic Games on Game Gear and Master System

Post by shadobeni »

Were any of the 2d sidescrolling platform Sonic games on Game Gear or Master System good?

That depends. If you're asking whether or not they were solid games considering the platforms they were released for, then yes, absolutely, but if your criteria is based on how much they play like the Genesis games, you'll be a bit disappointed.

Sonic 1, 2, Chaos and Triple Trouble are all good games, in my opinion, with Triple Trouble being the cream of the crop. Blast, on the other hand, is pretty much just a mess and entirely worth skipping.

Sonic Chaos is lots of fun but really easy. Sonic 2, on the other hand, is very hard. They are both good games.

I enjoyed 2 on the GG but yeah as has been said. Taken apart from the Genesis games they are good but when you compare them they just aren't nearly as good.

At one point, I had Sonic 1, 2, Chaos, and Triple Trouble. I sold all but Sonic 1 back in the day. I think Sonic 1 stands the test of time, though as others have said, the Genesis Sonic games are better. I could never get past the first boss in Sonic 2, which was very frustrating, because when you died you had to replay the entire Act. I don't really remember much about Chaos and Triple Trouble. They were not as frustrating as Sonic 2, but apparently not good enough for me to keep. If you want to try them out relatively inexpensively, some of the Game Gear Sonic games are included on Sonic Mega Collection Plus and Sonic Gems Collection.

I would just download the ROMs and Fusion and see for yourself.

The one with 3d models, Sonic Blast I think, is crappy (not TERRIBLE, but not good either).

The others are decent to good. Sonic 2 is harder but possibly the best as well.
