I've been trying your challenges octopod. Sometime I can't register my score though....

I've been noticing avatars having issues, like just standing there with their arms out.

I think Zen is right -- we are in a testing period here. At least that's what I hope. Rather than be annoyed at the break, I'm going to try to take a positive view and hope that they are using the time to test and then fix the server issues and take some other suggestions into consideration. If they come back in a month with NO change, then I will be really annoyed. At the very least the server issues should be knocked out.

Since I have the OP, do you guys think it would at all worthwhile to list names of RB members who are into this and maybe some games that we are buying/playing/competing for high scores on? It would be an easy place to look for tags and add friends who are into high score challenges.

I picked up Tempest last night and had fun with it. It's much easier to control using the d-pad than the analog stick, as odd as that sounds. The analog stick just isn't accurate enough IMO.

I could see myself buying more games in the future. Even though I own a ton of what they are probably going to release for Game Room, the challenges against friends is what will keep me playing.

What are the controls for Tempest? I'd check myself but my fiancée and I are watching The Truman Show.

Server drops are driving me crazy. Also high scores don't make any sense.
Example
When looking at one of my arcades octopod has the high @ around 10000 (The red score above the machine) When I play ranked my best has been around 13000. Doesn't register my high score. On top of that, I don't think they register challenge scores towards your overall high score because octopods Challenge score on the game beats my high ranked. Yet the arcade shows the 3rd highest score between the 2 of us. It's all a lil confusin right now.

Yes we should get a list of GTs I only have 3 on my friends list that play the games. 2 of them are from here.

I noticed that too. I was playing someone else's Tempest and I beat the high score showing on the cab and put in my initials. Then my score just seemed to disappear.

What I have noticed, which makes no sense either, is that for it to count towards the challenge you actually have to go into the challenge area of the menu and play from there and when you play in challenge mode it does not count towards medals and achievements. Stupid if you ask me. You should just play the game in whatever mode, except the one that lets you rewind, and have it count toward both the challenge and medals. Hopefully that gets fixed.

You know, I was thinking. I bet we are not really going to see any 90's releases for the most part. Why would they do that when they put them up on XBLA and charge $5-10 for them. Unless they make another price bracket.

Oh, I definitely think we will see 90s games, but not many, and certainly not for a while. If the service succeeds (read: survives...) they will run out of good content to offer(yes, I know, things on that front are suspect already). Consider their goal of 1000 games in three years, and the fact they say they want to hear from us regarding suggestions for future releases.

Also, XBLA has skewed away from straightforward arcade ports. When an arcade game does make it to XBLA, it has received some form of upgrading, e.g. R-Type Dimensions, Turtles in Time, etc. The upcoming Final Fight pack and Raystorm HD also follow this trend.

It seems it's up to the right's holders. Put some effort into an upgrade and release to XBLA, or simply allow the ROM to be sold for minimal effort. That's a tough call on which method would make more money.
