Wii Freezes then buzzing sound from speakers.

Post by pepharytheworm »

I recently bought Broken Sword new from Best Buy, I had to it was only $15. I tried to play it today and during the opening credits/cinema it would flicker a little then once I got to the part where Nico's boss's portrait comes up it freezes and then TV lets out a long Beep. I can't reset the system but I can turn the the system off by holding the power button and I can eject the game. The only time my system has every froze before was browsing the internet and that was only two or three time since I bought it launch. Does anybody know what the problem is? or a way to fix it? I have had no problem with the other 30 games I own.

I think your Wii is starting to feel left out of the RROD and YLOD party. After all, Nintendo invented the blinking light of death:

Seriously though, without any additional info, I'd have to say the internet freezes might've been overheating (wi-fi usually runs pretty hot) and the disc may just be a bad press. Does anything look odd on the disc itself? How are your fans, are they completely open and free of dust? Are you playing with your system vertically or horizontally? As with all systems, I recommend horizontal 110%. Could be a dusty lens as well, try getting some canned air duster and blasting it through the slot where you insert the disc (remembering to keep the can completely vertical to keep it from spraying the fluid in liquid form).

Hey, I thought you said I wouldn't recieve any help from you. Seriously though since no one wanted to help me out earlier I found out for myself what the problem was. Its an overheating issue do to keeping the internet connect24 on standby all the time and keeping Wii speak hooked up to the usb.

Its not a problem with the lens, thank goodness. I wouldn't use canned air even if it was. All that would do is move the dust around and redistribute it. It might make the lens cleaner or make it worse and the liquid accidently getting out is not a risk I would take. Nintendo does have 1st party lens cleaner at least and its only $10.

So if anyone else has this problem your Wii might not be broken. Its usually related to your internet connection or having usb devices always plugged in. Nintendo even suggest to change wi-fi routers or erase intenet settings then applying again.
