Cheers Mozgus!

By the way is there any other big name applications that are highly reccommended? Is the emulation good? Am I starting to ask too many questions?

Cheers again,

New memeber here!

So, per forum rules I didn't want to make another "Burning Dreamcast Games" thread and decided to post it here.

I'm hoping you guys can help me out. I know you guys have seen these types of threads thousands of times before but I do need help!

My problem is....I googled and youtubed on how to burn Dreamcast games as well as searched this site. Long story short I followed directions on youtube using DiscJuggler to burn, I believe, cdi files. When I finished burning Soul Calibur (I forgot which speed I was burning at. Though I know to burn at lowest speed possible) and put it in the dreamcast and powered it up. It took a while to load at the "Sega Swirl" start up screen. It sat there longer than usual. Then the game seemed to boot up fine but the intro to the game doesnt seem to be fully intact. After the swords fall to the ground and the camera speeds up toward the back of one of the character and as he is about to turn around it quickly goes to the title screen for the game.

So I've got a few questions. When burning with DiscJuggler people seem to have different ways to burn it. What is the "correct" way or the way with less error/highest percentage of it coming out right? By that I mean I've seen a couple of different ways to burn with DiscJuggler. Some say go to advance setting and change it to like: Mode 2; CD-I; RAW; or what have you. There seems to be a few different combinations people use. And then some people don't change anything. Then theres other people who say to use Alcohol 120% rather than DiscJuggler.

What am I doing wrong here? I can't remember off the top of my head what advanced settings I had it on when I burned Sould Calibur. I believe it was Mode 2; CD-A (or something similar. I know it was not CD-I though) and I believe I checked RAW.

Should I just use Alcholo 120% instead?

games that used all or nearly all of the full Gigabyte of the GD-ROM usually cut video to make it fit a 700 MB CD-R. Either that's what happened, or you may have a crappy image. Does the game play right?

All you should ever have to do is install DiscJuggler (I use 6, it works fine), double click the .cdi, insert a disc, click "start", click "yes" to burn at trial settings, then click "no" if it asks for burn correction (or to "fix the image" or whatever). You should not need to do anything else besides that. I have recently (as in no more than a week or two) successfully burned about 70 discs for Dreamcast using the method I have just typed out. Make sure DiscJuggler is the default for .cdi files as well, someone had problems burning until he associated .cdi with DiscJuggler so that it would open it directly.

I don't know if opening a .cdi automatically resets options or not, so I would recommend completely removing DiscJuggler and re-installing to be safe.

Thanks "17Days" for your reply. I appreciate it.

Yeah, that makes sense what your saying about cutting out video in order to make it fit the 700MB CD-R. Either that or I do have a crappy image.

The game does play fine except for the long "Sega Swirl" load start up screen.

I'll try it again later today without changing anything at all to see if I get different results. How would I be able to check to see if DiscJuggler is in default cdi mode without having to remove it and re-installing it?

I guess the only way would to be to change a setting and see if it's changed back when you close it and open a .cdi file. I don't know if DiscJuggler saves settings or to what extent it does because I've never messed with any since I've only used it for burning DC games.

The long "sega swirl" screen could be a sign your lens is a little dirty. Clean the lens and spindle (the rubber on it especially) with rubbing alcohol on a q-tip and then blow out the assembly with canned air duster from the computer section of most stores. You won't believe how much dust will come out of your system if it's never been cleaned before. Oh, and make sure to hold the canned air completely vertical as otherwise it will spray out liquid and not only waste your duster spray but possibly leave residue as well  .
