Anyway, I started playing this game. It seems to be a nice mix between Diablo and Baldur's Gate or something. I'm liking it so far. Anyone here played it?
Yup, I played it a few years ago. Its not perfect, but I enjoyed it quite a bit. Admittedly I'm a sucker for most 'Diablo clones'. Stay away from Beyond Divinity though. Aside from the atrocious voice acting, something about that one rubbed me the wrong way. I only played it a few hours before it pissed me off and I sold it off.
Actually, PC stuff is intended to go in the MS section since windows is MS.

Were you patched up? It was a bit buggy on release. I remember a few times when looking at the map was showing me the map of the entire game (what I had uncovered) as opposed to just the area I was in. I remember crashes at first too. I'm pretty sure it was cooperating for the second half of the game after some patch came out.
I got to near the endgame (got all the members of the council of 7) and used the gong. Game doesn't proceed (was using No-CD - google for this, find out that No-CD doesn't display video cutscenes so game won't progress on this part as it wants to display a video cutscene). Make a full copy of the folder before fiddling with it. Start fiddling, reinstall and so on, get to see the intro (so now the cutscenes are working) load my savegame, game crashes. My saves are gone when I try again.
Short version - my save games have vanished despite the fact that I made a copy. Suggestions to try to recover them (locations? program that undeletes from a specific folder*) or replacement savegames near the place I was are welcomed.
*I have one that will search all deleted files on a drive, but that is rather messy.
That shits. I know what it's like to have your save games disappear. I updated S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl to the latest patch. What I didn't know was that the patches delete your game saves. (Thanks GSC!)
It's been quite a while since I played through DD, but I had a look in my save game archive (shut up ) and the savegame folder creates folders were the name that you gave to the save. Inside each there are a number of files. There are a bunch that have a 000 (that's the number zero) extension. So maybe look in your recycle bin or search the hard drive for *.000.
