In Shining Force for Genesis, how do I save?

I'm on chapter one, on the battlefield though, so how do I save?

Two ways. First is the in battle save. On your turn hit B, then move the cursor over an empty square. Hit A or C and a menu will pop up. Choose save, and it will do a battle save and exit out of the game. Second way is out of battle; find a priest and he can save your game.

I need to pick up a Ranger X cart. I tried playing on the computer with a keyboard a few times and that game really needs a controller to be played properly ...
