Have you ever tried looking at a stereogram for longer than a couple of minutes at a time? It's bound to cause headaches.
If it's going to do 2D+depth the only way that I can think it being able to achieve this is through a parallax barrier. Is there any other proven consumer technology that works without glasses?
Wouldn't want to drive or operate heavy machinery after playing a game, even for a little while.![]()
Plus the older stereoscopic concept had to separate each eye to each screen to achieve the 3D effect.
I watched Terminator 2 live Universal Studios show years ago. Wore special slightly (not Red/Blue) tinted glasses.
The 3D effect on the screen behind the live actors really came alive, stuff would really jump at you.
There were PS1 CD Jewel cases with front ridges that would trick your eyes. Not 3D though.
Title page of game booklet with ridged jewel of Crash and Shipwreckers comes to mind.
It'll be interesting to see what Nintendo has in mind, especially if its "Eyeglass free".
A ridged touch screen or dual layer DVD concept, except for the eyes to focus?
The older stereoscopic concept.
One eye to slight different perspective photo.
hi, it's called accelerometers.
WordFu on the iPhone did it a year ago, as did this app: (about 1 minute in he demonstrates it)
The system monitors the angle and that translates into a repositioning of the 3D elements. It's actually a really simple thing to do, it's really just a more advanced variation of parallax scrolling or joystick based camera control, I don't know why they haven't done it with the Wii yet. Oh wait, that's right, because the Wii's accelerometers are a joke.

Get a 3GS, problem solved. The 3GS does not have framerate or responsiveness issues with any games I have including all of the games on that list. Also, is it jailbroken? Most (all?) jailbroken iphones run like shit, that's why you leave it stock.vash23n wrote:
The iPhone sucks for gaming. I have it and I only play baseball now, but I have tried many many games and have never been satisfied. Everything lags or skips or the controls are just not responsive enough. This is fine, however, because I rely on the phone, mainly, as a phone. It is fun to have around in a pinch, but if I want portable gaming I use a portable gaming machine. If that machine only worked as well as my iPhone and did not have the features of a phone I would be pissed. If it worked as well as my iPhone and did have the features of a phone I would not get it because I have an iPhone. If it is far superior to the iPhone, even if utilizing the same mechanics, then great. But it can not be sold on the idea that it is like an iPhone, which is what I hear it being compared to the most. Comparing the two really does not make the new handheld sound impressive in any way to me because I am aware of the weaknesses of the iPhone and imagine playing games that I love like Zelda and Mario on an iPhone to be annoying as hell - unless they have graphical representations of a D-pad and buttons on the touch screen like many iPhone games do. It reminds me of the other thread talking about the new PS3 Move. It's something new that is kind of like something old so all anyone can think about is the something old. Many people are skeptical of the Move because of its similarities to the Wiimote. Many people, including me, are skeptical of these new systems utilizing iPhone-like mechanics because of the similarities to the iPhone.
Did you even look at the list I linked to? every game on that list stomps all over the garbage on PSP and DS. I don't see why you would want to mimic a console with a handheld, it makes more sense to me to make a totally new experience. Name another game platform with a multi-touch touchscreen...exactly. One with accelerometers as well? nope. And as the user base increases, so will the number of developers and quality of the games. It's the future, I wouldn't waste money on Nintendo's stubborn rip-off ass.
I'm really getting tired of this forum, nobody researches anything, they just blurt out the first thing that pops into their head and never want to hear any different. "Hey, I assume the iPhone isn't any good even though I don't know shit about it, so it does! Don't tell me otherwise! you're not the boss of me, man! I AM GOD! BOW BEFORE ME!"

Maybe because you're so abrasive and condescending to everybody, flat-out insulting anybody who disagrees with you.
But I digress.

Calling everything on the DS garbage tends to make people not care what you say. It'd be like saying everything on the SNES is garbage.17DaysOlderThanNES wrote:Did you even look at the list I linked to? every game on that list stomps all over the garbage on PSP and DS.

Hey, do your research! Remember this is school, not a forum. All opinions must be based on fact.
I want the new DS to have both controls and something new just like the DS. But just to let you all know I buy handhelds because its like getting new games for older consoles. DS is like if they continued to make 32/64 generation games and the PSP like the PS2. I always think handhelds are the best systems for retro gamers.
You know, when I am tired of a girl, I just started dating, I would leave. No point staying around someone I don't like. Just some advice.

Uh... I don't mean to sound like a know-it-all dick but I'm pretty sure a lot of the Android based smart phones have multi-touch. It just hasn't been enabled because Apple has some sort of patent on it. (I haven't done any research though).Name another game platform with a multi-touch touchscreen...

Didn't you know? Everything Apple does is totally original. There is zero chance that they stole several of their major "innovations" from the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center.Rocketman wrote:lolwut?I wouldn't waste money on Nintendo's stubborn rip-off ass.

Who the hell is this guy? I feel like I vaguely remember one post by you. I don't care about the tirade you just wrote. We all get along fine. We are having an entertaining discussion and you came along like a fart. No one is listening, we are just pretending you aren't here to save you the embarrassment. I do not have a jailbroken iPhone, by the way, and I have a new iPhone... I guess I just don't have as hot a nut for the iPhone as you do.17DaysOlderThanNES wrote:Get a 3GS, problem solved. Anyway, it's all good, just calm down. No one is trying to be rude to you. You just took everyone off guard because you came in and immediately had this caustic attitude.
My favorite thing to come out of this whole situation is e-penis. I will be using that word in inappropriate, out of context situations all day. I thank you for that!
Re: Nintendo 3DS officially announced
I think it sounds neat, i do have a DS lite already. But they bring out to many new hand helds to often. While I think its okay that they bring this out, why bother with a DSIXL?
Re: Nintendo 3DS officially announced
Agreed. My suggestion was kind of a "oh gosh, I hope they're not thinking of doing this" kind of thing.Ivo wrote:I don't think it will be stereographic, that HAS to be very tiring on the eyes - not to mention that I don't think they can make easy to get into the 3D mode AND also to have the player stay in "3-d" cross-eyed mode during gameplay!
I really hope that's not the idea. I think Niode's guess is much more reasonable and realistic.
Ivo.
