Japan dreamcast problem

Post by Haros »

Hello guys,

I have a Japanese dreamcast with the following problem,
when I turn it on it loads the dc logo but it stays there. It doesn't make a difference if I have a game loaded or not.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

That's odd. Has it ever worked properly? Or did you just get this and this is what it does? Sounds weird... like it can't read the internal memory (os) or something. Maybe there is a loose connection inside?

They gave it to me with this problem.

Is there a chance of a dead battery causing this?

No a dead battery merely asks you to set the clock over and over. The Dreamcast still functions properly.

I'm not sure what the problem is I've never heard of a Dreamcast doing that. The only thing I can suggest is open it up and see if there is anything out of the ordinary on the motherboard. Try reseating all the components of the system and see if that makes any difference. Other than that I don't know what to suggest.

Yeah I have checked that. Everything seems ok.

Also the circuit seems to be in good condition (no burned capacitors / resistors or something). The drive too seems to be ok as it spins when I turn on the dreamcast...

Just to make sure, with no disc at all, physically in the DC, still just Logo screen and not a Setting screen?

Also, try a music CD not a CDR but a real one, see if it will play.

Ouch. Other then what "Niode" suggested above about reseting internal contacts, can't think of anything else either. If you don't need that Japanese Import, cheap to get a replacement DC though.

EDIT
Don't think it will make a difference, but try powering on with no accessories attached, no disc in drive and with the door open.
Does it (after about 5 seconds) go to the Setting screen or Date screen?
