Dragon Age: Origins for PS3 Review

Post by ReddMcKnight »

Bioware strikes again, and this time with the spiritual successor to the critically acclaimed Baldur's Gate! Dragon Age: Origins is a PS3, PC, and 360 Game, but this is a Review of the PS3 Version. OK, here goes.

Gameplay: This game is a...well, how can I put this? A Semi-Action RPG. In other words, you press the attack button, and your Character will do the rest, unless you plan to use skills, which requires you to press different buttons to use them. On to more aspects of the gameplay, you run around exploring the world, helping people, searching for treasure, and even finding romance.

Story: The Story is this: You are a Grey Warden, and the last one at that. Your job is to stop an oncoming blight of demons called Darkspawn. The basic goal is to gather the aid of several different "factions", if you will. Apart from that, you can do a bunch of side quests each with they're own individual stories.

Challenge: This game's difficulty is adjustable. You can make it easy, or a living nightmare. It's all up to you.

Final Word: This game kicks so much ass, although I don't feel I was very thorough in this review. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me. Final Score: 8.8/10

I own an Xbox 360 and a PS3. I have found that games with an originating development cycle on the Xbox360 always suffer on the PS3. The reason is quite quite simple. Develop it cheaply for the Xbox360 (which is easier to program) and then just port it to the PS3. Tweak it a little here and there and release it.

I mentioned something along the lines with this in my RE5 Gold review just a little while ago. I notice that there is a noticeable difference in superficial quality between console exclusives and multi-console games -- especially in the graphics department. Xbox360 can create some beautiful graphics that can stand up with PS3, but most games shared between the two can't hold a candle. I'm sure sound is the same way, as well.

Currently Playing: Resident Evil 5 Gold (PS3), Chrono Trigger (SNES), Conker's Bad Fur Day (N64), and the waiting game . . . for my Gold n' Wood Neo Geo. :)
