To word it better, how do you think it stands in the series? Like the whole series, favorites are different from people to people, but it seemed FFXIII didn't do to well in Japan, but does really good in the West, which Square says they were hoping for.
Some people even said it's their new favorite in the series.
I haven't played it, but I think I'll still prefer 5 and 6 to this, not saying it's a bad game by any means.

I personally think 1 is better than 2 and 3.

I rank 2 and 3 above one because 2 has the stronger narrative and 3 has the stronger PC development system. 1 has a very bare-bones narritive that ranks a bit ahead of Dragon Quest 2 (but DQ3 beats it) and the class system is very confining compared to 3's. It's interesting when you look at pattern of the focus of the early Final Fantasiesblackmagepwns wrote:I personally think 1 is better than 2 and 3.
1. System - Classes and class changing. Not much of a narrative at all.
2. Story - The characters are actual characters, not just four random people. And you have story events to propel the narrative further. Though this one also introduced a completely different character building system, but the focus seemed to be on the story.
3. System - Job system! But the story's kinda weak.
4. Story - This was the big one. It got an entire group of people hooked on the JRPG thanks to its storytelling.
5. System - Job system++! They dialed back a lot of the story to be more of a series of amusing anecdotes and a single reason for questing in the first place. Not nearly as much tragedy.
6. Story - And not just story, but characters. Pretty much all of the characters have a personal story that helps define them, and they all manage to stay relevant in spite of there being such a huge cast. Plus, we got the three party final dungeon! Pretty much only Realm, Stago, and Mog got shafted in that way (Umaro and Gogo don't count). Mog especially feels like an addon, while with Realm and Stago it's mostly due to how late they get introduced. But even Relm is fairly fleshed out thanks to Shadow.
Then once 7 hit Square decided that thanks to the new 3D technolgoy that they will always try to make a good story (operative word being try) and then the big changes between versions will be your character development (and then 12 and 13 changed some even more fundamental things that we associate with Final Fantasy).

Yup, automating every task and walking in a straight line might suck but just look at those graphics and experience that story!!!!
I hated thirteen. It was an extremely overhyped game that failed to deliver on 90% of all it's expectations and only gave you a small taste of what could have been at the very end. It was simply an extremely long training session that finally gave you full control just at the end and expected you not to care. Screw the current state/fad to automate everything most Japanese game companies have had as of late. It may work in some genres, but they should either keep it out or clearly advertise it as such on their damn products.

I got so bored with X, that I haven't played anything since. (Disclaimer: I am stating an opinion -- NOT attempting to incite a flame-war.)

I haven't finished FF13 yet, but I will say it has quite possibly the best combat system in the series. To get the most out of it though, you really have to try to five star EVERY fight(including bosses). It's the only way to see the beauty of the combat system
Combat systems are a big deal with me. Gameplay>story, even in rpgs.
