Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Struggling to find enjoyment from gaming

Post by alexis524 »

it just isn't the same anymore. i've tried, lord knows i've tried to get back that feeling from playing a really good game, but after a half an hour or so, i have no desire to touch it ever again, which is very bad since my collection spans 12 consoles and about 200 game collection. I'm having more and more thoughts of cleaning house

has anyone else felt this way?

Yes, what you're going through is normal :D . I think it has to do with growing up. For me at least, it has to do with time. I no longer have the time to spend on video games that I once did, and now when I'm playing a game I think about all the other stuff I should be doing like studying, working, ect. So when I play a game now, I don't want to explore like I did back in the N64 days.

To things I noticed with myself:

1: Getting older had an effect on how much I want to play games, I don't play nearly as much as I used to, usually only on weekends in fact

2: Having tons and tons of games made it hard for me to enjoy games, once I boxed up most of my games and only kept 10-15 accesable, I enjoy the games that I have much more.
Older. Not wiser.

if it comes to that, .......perhaps.

maybe i have too much/too many games as odd as that sounds. Sometimes, i'd rather have a small collection with a few core titles that i enjoy playing, dunno...

Yea a few times. I get burnt out quickly with repetitive tasks. I think that is why RPGs just don't appeal to me as much as FPS games or RTS games. With RPGs it's almost always a dark evil that is 1000 years old that has been awakened, and it's up to you to destroy it. I love RPGs, but hate them at the same time, for the same reasons I love them. I think the weather has a lot to do with my gaming habits as well. If it's a nice day outside, I would much rather be outside working or doing almost anything outdoors... but in the winter time, that's usually when I play the most games. I have thought about selling my collection off a few times, but them I think.. What would I do this winter? That and I've loved video games ever since I was a little dude, so not having anything is just plain out of the question. Once you step away from it, you'll probably be able to step back into it and enjoy it. Just don't let it consume you, otherwise you can, and probably will get sick of it eventually.

I have this issue as well. House work, yard work, website work.. the list goes on and on.

I've never gone through this. From being a kid, going to college, after getting married, I've always enjoyed my time playing video games.

And, see my sig.

You can always adapt your preferences. I know I avoid 99% of JRPGs because I believe their filler battles are a complete waste of time, and Fallout 3 gave me a hard time so there goes the "much-open-ended" WRPGs too.
