I have a model 1 Genesis hooked up to a model 1 Sega CD with the mixing cable, and take the stereo out from the Sega CD into the tv. Works for Genesis games, 32X, and Power Base Converter.
For video, I use the model 1-to-model 2 adapter cable (from Genesis av-out) attached to a model 2 stereo composite cable into the tv. If I want to play 32X, I detach the composite cable and plug it into the 32X's av-out, then attach the adapter cable to the 32X jumper cable into the 32X's av-in.
Genesis and 32x setup help
Re: Genesis and 32x setup help
I have and regularly use a 32X on a CDX. I've done so for years and never once had any kind of stability problems or "rolling over." I'm not sure how this could happen unless you were to try and tip it over by really pushing down hard on the 32X...samsonlonghair wrote: It's really not a good idea for stability reasons. I've tried mounting my 32X on top of my CDX. The 32X made the top of the back end of the CDX so heavy it would roll over. I was afraid I would damage my precious CDX. I'm not trying that again.
Re: Genesis and 32x setup help
I could be misrepresenting the subject. I know there are many board revisions between both the Model 1 and Model 2, resulting in both Models having better boards than others. This particularly shows itself with both video and sound. The reduction in video quality even shows at the Composite level, regardless of chroma and luma as I mentioned earlier. However, I have my doubts about whether a significant difference is shown at the RGB level (which is what we're talking about when converting RGB to S-Video). And to be clear, both Model 1s and Model 2s have good revisions - one's not plainly better than the other (though the Model 1 VA7 has the best audio out of all of them, when modded - the worst when not modded).Capcomwarrior wrote:Ok, so all that I heard about the gen 2 having crappy av is not relevant unless I have plans to do an s-vid hack, which wont work for 32x?
Long story short, if you're going to use composite, stick with the Model 1. Otherwise, either make it easier on yourself with the Model 2, compare and contrast, or go over to the sega-16 boards, as they know a hell of a lot more than myself.
