I am running the GOG version of Beyond Good & Evil on a laptop with Vista 64 Home Premium.

I had a few glitches at first, mostly having to do with weird jaggy things in the graphics. Really strange looking. I had to turn HW Vertex Processing off in the Advanced Settings of the gamer launcher. I also turned off the W buffer. I've heard some people with mutli-core processor systems had better luck when the right clicked the .exe file and set the affinity for a single core.

These might help you, but I'm not sure if the same tips apply to the Steam version or not since GOGs is meant to work on XP and Vista systems.

Argh... well just got back from the shop and manged to find a GC copy at cash converters for $4... they said it didn't work because of damage but at least i got the manual and what not.

I've played up to the first dungeon where it crashed then cleaned up the disc a little and it seems to work fine. As we speak i am using a backup utility on the wii to transfer the content of the disc and hopefully make a usable backup, its going really really slow because of all the scratches >.>

also the GC seems to have the best graphics out of all of them... ever better then the screens I've seen for PC ^.^

Steam does have an offline mode.
Tried installing it without a connection(even if you have a backup)? obviously all of us fixed internet connection and its going to be available 99% of the time but what if you decide to put it on a laptop or its 10years from now and your trying to relive some old memories?
For that reason, I bought the pre-steam version of Half-Life 1 off ebay, so I could know I would always be able to play it as long as I have a computer compatible with it.
