Momocon's Retro Gaming Panel

Post by Kularian »

I happened to be at Momocon this last weekend, and just as the con was about to draw to a close, I happened to wander into one of the last panels for the day, called the 'Retro Gaming Panel.' I was given a can of Jasta, and was (rather pointedly) asked what my favorite game was. Responding with Chrono Trigger, we immediately launched into discussion about it, Chrono Cross, Radical dreamers, and all that surrounded it.

The rest of the time was comprised of reminiscing in our nostalgia of the great classic games, sipping Jasta, and more or less being highly amused. From what the host of the panel said, Momocon cut back on what he was really allowed to do, as he normally would have videos, pictures, and even game systems setup in some of the different cons, which I think would be wholly excellent to partake in.

Anyway, I was just wanting to thank ya for showing up and providing a grand time, and if you happen to be at any of the other cons I attend, I will most certainly make it one of my priorities.

Thanks!

Well it looks like we got one new member from that day. I remember someone mentioning Chrono Trigger behind me but didn't see who. Welcome to the site. I was in the front row.
I personally coped out as I can't name my favorite game, thats too hard. So I said the two games that got me into gaming, Pac-Man and Super Mario Bros..

By the way its Shasta, and even though I was right by them I was never offered one

Ohright. Josta was the stuff released by Pepsi that I also loved but fell to the wayside at some point.

Anyway, thank you for the welcome, and I'll probably be poking around the site for awhile. However, I did forget to mention Final Fantasy Tactics, which actually might be my favorite game. Ah well.

And that sucks. : / Shasta is great. :p

Ah, I remember those questions. Fast loves asking that to random folks who walk in the door. I always tell him "Aliens Vs. Predator arcade."

Pephary - I am bringing you and your fiancee a flat of them then. What flavors do yall want?

Kularian - I am glad you enjoyed the wild ramblings. I got alot of questions about it by the other headstaff (those that kept opening the doors to clean the room but were roped into the discussion anyway) afterwards. I am sure it was one of the few panels you have ever attended where the guy running it made fun of himself more than the audience did... What other conventions do you attend? Final Fantasy Tactics would have gotten me off on a wild tangent about war games and I would have ended up talking about H.G. Wells.

I am taking the next month off from most everything (though itll probably end up being a week), but believe you me, we are working on next year. Once I find out what the room selection looks like, I will be able to say more. Racket, Ack, Pephary, Majors, and a couple others are going to be getting calls/emails.

It's possible. I'm (kind of) new to conventions, so I haven't sat in a whole lot of panels yet, but I've attended AWA twice, and this was my first Momocon experience. I'm thinking of probably seeing if I can't hit MTAC as well, and maybe, if I can gather the courage, Dragoncon.

I'm hoping to build up a fairly regular list of cons to hit every year, as it's pretty awesome to be around the people that 'get' me, y'know? :P

You dont want to see my list then...
- Ive not been to MTAC but will be going this year. They host a sister con in October called GMX which is like a mini Dragoncon. I am not giving any panels at MTAC, but will be on half a dozen at GMX.
- We are in talks with AWA about a retrogaming panel. Other than that its boardgames for me.
- Dragoncon is pretty much my college reunion so I go every year. I am giving atleast one panel this year, I just dont now on what, yet.
- The other con in Atlanta that I am going to is Seishuncon in June. I may be giving a retro panel, or I may only be giving a anime themed games panel. Either way works for me.

I could go on, but Ive gotta be at my other job in six hours.
