What was the last movie you've seen?

Recently bought, and received, a copy of Laid to Rest. Now, I've seen this before, but loved it so much I had to buy it. Now it'll be easier to try to get others to try this.

I also ordered a few other things from Amazon, mostly from the marketplace, were Lightning Bug (done by the same guy who did Laid to Rest; the DVD of Laid to Rest also had a trailer for Lightning Bug), Dean Snow (a Nazi zombie film) and Drive-Thru (with a pre-Gossip Girl Leighton Meester, though this isn't her last horror film)

Stalker is a twisted masterpiece.

Most of the people involved later died of cancer and the likes, because of the radiation in the soil, in the areas of filming.

Think about that next time you watch the movie! :P

But it was filmed years before the Chernobyl tragedy had taken place?

Watched The Men Who Stare At Goats.. A nice feel-good comedy with an excellent cast but it's the story that's a bit of a mess.. They could have come up with an original concept rather than regurgitating the tired Jedi mythology. In numeric terms it's a 7/10 movie for me.

Its not even about that.
The Zone of the film was inspired by a nuclear accident that took place near Chelyabinsk in 1957. Several hundred square kilometers were polluted by fallout and abandoned; of course there was no official mention of this forbidden zone at the time.
Also:
The original negatives were destroyed (by a processing error at the laboratory) and the film had to be shot again from scratch with a new director of photography.
So they where there quite an extendet period of time. And if you have seen the movie, they actually get that soil and water in their faces! Didnt the main guy even roll around in the grass?

Keep in mind, the soil in prypjat is radiated to this day.

edit: Just for kicks, here's some more trivia. Trivia is fun. Cliff clavin would be proud.
We were shooting near Tallinn in the area around the small river Pirita with a half-functioning hydroelectric station. Up the river was a chemical plant and it poured out poisonous liquids downstream. There is even this shot in Stalker: snow falling in the summer and white foam floating down the river. In fact it was some horrible poison. Many women in our crew got allergic reactions on their faces. Tarkovsky died from cancer of the right bronchial tube. And Tolya Solonitsyn too. That it was all connected to the location shooting for Stalker became clear to me when Larisa Tarkovskaya died from the same illness in Paris.

Meh, I want to ask you guys if you have seen a particular Soviet movie. I think it was about the time of stalker, or somewhere around that. But I just cant remember the Title.

It's really funny, but also strange. It's about 2 ... "aliens". Two russian guys that talk really weird, and they picked up the main guy. Woha, it's been so long I have a hard time remembering. There was also a lot of desert in it.

The "alien" guys talked in a really weird language, I remember that as a running gag between me and the guy with whom i've watched it. Quite entertaining and interesting... Maybe I'll remember at some point, it did have a cult following. ;__;

edit: Well, I cant remember this movie in particular, but for all the soviet union movie maker fans, here's another interesting one:

Could it be Kin Dza Dza? It's quite a quirky title thanks for indirectly reminding me of it.

Yes! Good work, thats the one! :D

Soviet Movie night over here, I also just remembred Liquid Sky, which was filmed by a russian production team, but in america. Quite an oddity, isnt it? After all, the union was still going around 82.

I loved it, though it might not be everyones cup of tea. (story is pretty absurd, I even found the alien premise just a facade to cover up a display of the early 80s and a unique sub culture.)

Thanks again for reminding me of the title of Kin Dza Dza, it deserves a rewatch.
