Help adjusting 13" MVS CRT monitor

Post by sharp3D »

Hello guys, I am the proud owner of a new MVS-2 13" mini cab. There are just a few things that need adjustment.

Image

The horizontal and vertical stretching of the picture is off and I am trying to adjust. There is about a half inch gap on each side and the picture is being stretched past the viewable bounds of the screen on the top and bottom. Should be able to see what I mean here. Look at where the picture ends on the cars grill, decent gap between the image and edge of the monitor.

Anyway, I am an arcade n00b, but I have been reading up on how to adjust them. I found several adjustment pots at the rear of the monitor, but I cant find any that adjust the stretching.

I found the brightness, focus and RGB adjusters.

There are also 2 more adjusters here, both seem to also control RGB in some fashion, but there are only 2 of them. Weird.

Anyway I have watched several youtube videos on the subject and read a few articles. There are supposed to be about 5-6 other pot dials specifically for adjusting monitor stretching on most monitors. I just cant find them! Please let me know if I am overlooking something!

I have posted similar requests in another forum, this new pressing issue just seems better suited here.

Thank you!

The same pics are back at your other post.

Why did you make a new post on the same question? We have 6 pages of research back there. A lot of questions will end up being researched all over again.

Anyways in answer to your query, really think you need a TV Tech who can see first hand all those pots right behind the back to that CRT "Gun", too much a risk of frying that monitor. Hang in there, since you are planning to go a larger monitor soon anyways. Enjoy that 111 MVS game cart. The best part is all that Neo Geo on a real Neo Geo and no quarters needed! Very slick move getting that cart.

Several questions were answered sure.. and I appreciate everyones help.

I just thought that the title and content of my other post had more to do with monitor swapping and upgrading and this question was more adjusting the existing one. Thought it might get more exposure by giving the topic its own thread.

I have since discovered this image

Image

It inst a picture of my actual monitor, but I remember seeing these dials on mine. They aren't labeled though, so looks like I am in for a bit of trial and error.

If you do want to chance, make sure you use a plastic "screw driver" to adjust those potentiometers. Less chance of shorting out that shunt. Just go in small increments and keep the photo for a starting point.

No idea if it has been mentioned before, and I dont want to undermine your common sense and knowledge about arcades.

But, dont kill yourself with that open monitor.

Dont worry.. I dont touch the insides without my full body condom on. I made a plastic screwdriver out of an old toothbrush... little sandpaper does the trick ;)

Monitor adjustment has been made. I fiddled with it for almost an hour. Result is only marginal. I noticed when I was playing with the brightness, when I cranked it up I could see some burn in written sideways on the monitor. I am guessing this monitor used to be positioned vertically in a different machine. All the more reason to monitor swap!

Moving back to the other forum, now that this problem has been "solved".
