a plead to be shot down
realizing I've lurked these forums for way much longer than I've participated; I'm closing in on the inevitable; gaining "ranks" (or whatever you call 'em)
this is a plead, which I *know* won't be heard (or if heard, won't be applied); but I will do it anyway
I realize as "the new guy"; I don't have much say in this and I realize that making 1 exception will pave ways for others to complain about me being that one exception
I will not bitch and whine about the decision, should it be against my plead, but I will make it;
being an avid gamer and a an old one at that (32 years, yes I *know* there's older people out there); I've grown up poor
I don't mean "poor" like the people starving all around the world; but "poor" as in growing up in the ghetto (long story short) and whenever my friends upgraded their consoles/computers, I was always at least 1 generation behind
I didn't mind this all that much, since by the time NES was the big hype, I enjoyed boxing on my Atari 2600
when everyone got an Amiga; I finally got my very own Commodore 64
I had it for many, many, many years; even as I sold off my PC and all my consoles, I still kept the C-64
why?
well, anyone looking at my avatar, will see the glory that is 8-bit
I've never been as amazed by graphics as I were back in the C-64 days; and it still has not seized to amaze me (I'm looking at C-64 demo's just about every day on youtube)
so with that rant, here is my plead:
can I please remain "8-bit" in my "grade" (the one under my avatar);
a no will do, I don't expect any moderator (or Racketboy himself) to throw out a long-winded explanation to a new-comer as to "why" (mainly since I "think" I covered all those bases)
but *if* it is possible with a yes: I would be a very happy man.
(and for anyone else, whom thinks "hey, let's pick on the new-guy"; here's a piece of advice; don't.)
:edit
and as irony would have it; I'm now 16-bit...
oh well... guess it's Amiga night =)

true that
point was that "new guys don't have lot to say 'round these 'ere parts, boy"
(a rude example of how I'm used to being treated on a diversity of forums, wherever I speak my mind)

Re: a plead to be shot down
I have mentioned this before myself, being a retro site you should start as Next Gen and move your way up to 8-bit. 8-bit sounds better to strive for on a retro site. Who doesn't agree that Next-Gen sounds like Newbie and 8-bit sounds more like a retro veteran?
I might also add I hate my Next-gen title.

But if you are Next-Gen, you can emulate all the 8-bit,16-bit,32-bit, etc. games!pepharytheworm wrote:I have mentioned this before myself, being a retro site you should start as Next Gen and move your way up to 8-bit. 8-bit sounds better to strive for on a retro site. Re: a plead to be shot down
I don't have strong feelings about it, but I also think the ranking system is a little odd. I lurked here a long time before joining, and when I first visited the forums, I just assumed that the "-bit" designation was intended to represent which gaming era you identify with most. I quickly realized, though, that it was actually based on post count.pepharytheworm wrote:I have mentioned this before myself, being a retro site you should start as Next Gen and move your way up to 8-bit. 8-bit sounds better to strive for on a retro site. Systems: TI-99/4a, Commodore Vic-20, Atari 2600, NES, SMS, GB, Neo Geo MVS (Big Red 4-slot), Genesis, SNES, 3DO, PS1, N64, DC, PS2, GBA, GCN, NDSi, Wii
Re: a plead to be shot down
Some forum systems let you write your own Text under the Name, In the control panel. Im sure this one should have that tiny option too?
Perhaps a solution for those who want to customize it.

I don't know emulation doesn't sound very retro to me. Nothing wrong with emulation, but to me its only pretending to be something its not, like its.............. well.............. emulatingthe7k wrote:But if you are Next-Gen, you can emulate all the 8-bit,16-bit,32-bit, etc. games!pepharytheworm wrote:I have mentioned this before myself, being a retro site you should start as Next Gen and move your way up to 8-bit. 8-bit sounds better to strive for on a retro site.
