Sick of PC games D:

I just bought Beyond Good And Evil for PC hopping to finish what i started ages ago on original xbox thinking that the steam release would acutely install this time... well it did install as far as i can tell yet am still unable to play the damn thing because of constant crashing(sometimes i can get to the first cutsean but most of the time it dies randomly) and you know how google only uncovers all these flaws and issues after you've paid money. i mean $10 is nothing but now i still need to go an buy ANOTHER copy of the game for a different platform, so now i'll have owned 3 copys and still not completed the game.

I don't see how it can be so difficult for dev's to just release a game free from this kinda BS, they can do it on consoles fine but why not the PC? don't tell me its compatibility due to hardware because thats a load of shit plain and simple, i have been able to install loads of fully featured games from 1994 and up (anything thats 32bit or can be emulated/ported) and its all to do with the packaging...

The CD release of Beyond Good And Evil has this very very broken DRM crap in it called "tages" that literally blocks anything higher then XP sp2 even though if you eventually manage to copy it across to visa 32bit it will run perfectly and now the steam copy removes this but apparently causes glitches and crashes on anything newer then XP... something that was not present in the CD release but is now magically in affect D: I think i'm going to go out today and see if i can find a GC copy and if not just buy some dvds and burn it >.>

I really can not remember the last PC games (besides hl2 powered ones) made post '99 that have just installed and run without some issue having a HUGE impact on the gameplay itself. And yes i have always had a main stream or higher system far surpassing the recommendation and always had my software up to date so i just don't know any more :S

Well compatibility is still a big deal despite Windows' offering abstract layers of support (mainly the DirectX libraries, and HAL). QA costs serious time and money and by doing simple math it's just not that feasible to guarantee PC ports be bug free. Also it depends largely on the publisher. Ubisoft are known for rushing shoddy PC games, so were the defunct Midway. Unless the main market for any given title is the PC I'd recommend waiting a few months for the game to be patched within playable levels. It seems even consoles are heading in the same direction thanks to the newfangled connectivity features.

Drm is pretty much digging a early grave for pc games.

I remember a friend of mine had trouble running Scarface on pc and the problem was the online activation didn seem to work so i did the logical thing i got a no-cd patch and the problem was solved.

And i'll add that i haven't bought any pc game for a full price for years i either get them used or i grab something from the bargain bin. The rest i have just downloaded.

Well It's not exactly the devs fault if they release a game that is compatible with Windows XP or whatever, and then subsequent versions of Windows aren't.

I bought the DRM free GOG version for $5.00 when it was on sale and love it. I play it on my laptop all the time, great game.

I actually got the 360 version of the Orange Box just so I could do without Steam and DRM nonsense. IMO, you should never need an internet connection to install or run a game in single player.

Well It's not exactly the devs fault if they release a game that is compatible with Windows XP or whatever, and then subsequent versions of Windows aren't.

The thing is they anticipated future windows versions and black listed them before they were released (the entire x64 architecture that is).

Also it just took me a whole 20mins to setup my Wii and then charge the batterys before i could get past the safty screen and start a GameCube game >.> i think wireless controllers are DRM on there own.

Tried installing it without a connection(even if you have a backup)? obviously all of us fixed internet connection and its going to be available 99% of the time but what if you decide to put it on a laptop or its 10years from now and your trying to relive some old memorys?

I'd prefer to play it on PC if its the CD copy just without the DRM(i am talking to friend who has near identical machine to mine and is running GOG version and did not tell me this until after i got it off steam >.<) so can you give me some details on your machine... like your not just running xp or something...
