I'm not sure what all the fuss is about, imho it was an average movie with a weak plot and some dubious casting. The whole movie feels like Kathryn Bigelow was trying to make three different films at once.

I'm going to strongly disagree with you on this. Can you explain more about why you think it was "average?"

Why was the casting "dubious"? The fact that the actors are largely unknown worked well to create more realism - and all of them did a great job with their roles I thought. I didn't feel like I was watching someone try to act, which is a good thing.

Weak plot? Not all war movies need to be about taking a hill or completing a particular mission. This was about the nuance of the long grind, the tension of the moment, and the personal changes brought about by war. As I said in my review a few pages back, I really thought it shared a kindred spirit with something like The Thin Red Line (another favorite war film), but without the over-bearing existentialist preachiness of that flick. The argument here is much more enthymematic (left up to the viewer to complete) and open-ended.

I'm not sure what you meant by "three films in one"- it all held together well from scene to scene (visually, stylistically, etc.). Having seen all but two of the other best picture nominees, I am pretty satisfied the Academy actually got one right for a change. This was easily the best movie about Iraq we've seen and probably the best war film of the last decade.

Rented the movie "See No Evil" last night, but gaven't watched it yet.

My problem with the casting was more to do with the use of big(ish) stars in minor roles I felt like the only reason Guy Pearce, Evangeline Lilly and Ralph Fiennes were in the film to sell a few more tickets.

As for three films in one for me the whole film felt muddled together you had action film elements with the dubious ex SAS Mercenaries scene and the slow motion shot of the shell casing ejecting etc. That mixed in with supposed documentary style filming and at the same time it was trying to be a war film.

I don't really have strong enough feelings about the film to go into any more details.

Watched it last night and I completely agree with this. The film didn't seem to know what it wanted to be. It would have been better if it had only stuck with the disarmament side of the movie with a focus more on the characters.

Primer. An indy movie about time travel. Highly recommend it. You'll have to watch it a few times to really grasp it and I advise to look up theories and graphs with possible time line interpretations. It's great.

Indeed, and it was made for peanuts. I saw it twice in the theater and finally picked it up on DVD. I need to infect more of my friends with it.
