Yeah my Dachsund's a chewer and Pug is a snorer.
Keep us posted when you get ready to mod that beautiful Arcade.
Maybe enjoy it as is for a while. The original screen looks to have clear sharp images.
Hey, lay that XBox down! Overheat problem on 360 and PS3 when they are at tower mode like that.

Because of the great pic that original monitor is putting out.
Another precaution.
Bench test the replace larger monitor first before removing the old one. Keep receipt for your new monitor. Hook up all the arcade leads to the Video Adaptor and the new replacement monitor sitting outside the cabinet. For some reason you are not satisfied with the results or if there are difficulties getting the right pic, easy to switch leads back. The new replacement monitor can be refunded with no accidental scratches from mounting.

Before I forget... how do you adjust the monitors display range? if you checkout the shot of the monitor with the car you will see there is about a half inch on each side not showing a picture. I am assuming these monitors can be adjusted like PC CRT monitors.. I just dont know how and where. The MVS came with a users manual, but it mentions nothing about the monitor.
I would lay my PS3 down if I ever used the thing. My blu-ray collection(which is why i got it) is rather small compared to DVD and since I got Netflix on my 360 it might get turned on once a month maybe... I might lay the 360 down for gameplay from now on, but when off, both consoles look sleeker upright... have to keep up appearances you know!

Not sure, should be pot adjustments on the board behind the CRT. BE CAREFUL, can't say it enough high voltages, use a plastic TV tuning screwdriver. Make sure you do the right pot, don't want to damage it.swirlee wrote:Before I forget... how do you adjust the monitors display range? if you checkout the shot of the monitor with the car you will see there is about a half inch on each side not showing a picture. As far as your PS3 and 360 YLOD and RROD prevention, read that link on my previous reply. "Niode" is very knowledgeable and what he wrote there makes very good sense.

The picture isn't being stretched all the way to each side of the monitor, so I took the back off the cab to try and adjust it. I read up on how to adjust these things but I can't find the horizontal and vertical pot adjusters. Where are they?
Here are some of the ones I found. Brightness, Focus and RGB adjustments.

On the PCB next to these adjusters it says RGB, but on the other side of the PCB it also says RGB, but only has two pot adjusters. Not sure what these do. So any idea where the vertical and horizontal pot adjusters are? Are these two adjusters the ones? I was by myself and I adjusted them a little, couldn't tell if anything changed and didn't want to screw anything up so I turned to you guys!

Also I want to put the arcade in "Test" mode, but it doesn't seem to be working.

When I push the "Test" button it gives me game credits, not switching to the test screen. Weird. When I push the other button(Service) and flip the ac switch neither does anything! Double Weird. I am guessing someone changed the wiring around. Here are some shots.

My cab came with two manuals, I tried looking at the wiring diagrams, but I am not very good at reading them yet. Are these manuals rare? I can scan the pages and create a PDF if anyone has been looking for these.

I want to get new buttons and controllers. Recommendations? Will just about any buttons, controllers be compatible? Also I saw a guy online who makes the button layout graphic to go under the plexi. I cant find it anymore... links?
Thanks guys!

Really great detailed pictures!
Pot Adjustments.
If screen is sharp, bright and clear:
Don't mess with the RGB that will change intensities of RGB saturation. Focus and brightness the same.
The unlabeled Pots I would be guessing, maybe a TV guy you can trust who can see first hand?
Be careful you could wipe out that monitor just to gain that little more screen size.
Is the Test Mode switch a momentary contact?
It looks disconnected in the back. You need 2 wires for any switch and fuse.
The wires hanging disconnected behind fuse and test switch best not to guess.
Could fry board if not hooked up right. I would leave disconnected until positive of where they go.
Actually weird the arcade is running with what looks like main fuse disconnected.
Though not a good thing, maybe got bypassed by a someone tired of replacing that fuse.
Sorry I can't be much help at this
Do you see that large Jamma connector anywhere?
It should be wired between your game controller/monitor video and the main Arcade board.
Also the smaller (if there is one) 5 pin video cable?
Neo Manual Scan
Yes, please scan and post a PDF link, a lot of members (me included) would be interested in reading those rare manuals.
For replacement arcade parts, I have bought from these guys.

Thanks in advance for all your feedback...
monetary contact?
I see that the test switch has i wire connected when the others have 2 or more.. but its weird... its the only one that does anything. When you push it, it gives you game credits as if you put a quarter in. I think the wiring diagram says there should be a black and red wire connected to it.... there are 2 red wires to choose. Its just weird because other than the fuse, all the other switches and buttons have wires connected but dont work.
You can see the jamma connector at the top of this pic I posted. I'll keep an eye out for the other wires.

I will get on the manual scans as soon as I can!
Yeah I looked at all the buttons and joysticks there, but what I am after is a recommendations as to which ones to buy. Several different choices in each category and I am not sure which are compatible.
THANKS!

No, a momentary contact, like a doorbell, you have to hold switch in to stay on. Just curious if that Test Switch and the Service Switch has to be held to stay on or if it clicks on and off. Looks like the Service Switch, next to the Toggle Power Switch does have two wires. Is that the one you mean works? All switches and fuses need two wires to function. Wire Current in, Wire Current out with a fuse or switch to break the circuit. Thats why I suspect that your fuse is bypassed. As for the test switch I don't see how it can close a circuit with only the one wire attached. Again unless absolutely positive, best not to hook up those hanging wires, Arcade is working.swirlee wrote:Thanks in advance for all your feedback...

Oh yeah, I see that Jamma connector on the bottom of the first pic. If you decide to follow thru on a larger screen, be sure to bench test the larger monitor first. Mount it after you are happy with the results of pic quality. Use my diagram I posted earlier and double check the wires to see if they do in fact connect to the monitor as shown in the pin out numbers and letters diagram.(Click, Scroll down)
The button and controller layout do look pretty good. If they are working fine, maybe leave them as is and just change the base to new graphic and clear plastic? But if you are after a whole new controller arrangement just make sure the joysticks have the same pin-outs. Individual direction and fire buttons should have two wires each. Hole size important unless you are going to change the entire base. Then you can relocate and drill whatever holes you want. I modified a Zaxxon Arcade Controller by adding more buttons from Happ Controls. Now hooks up to PS1/PS2, PC/iMAC Keyboard Encoder and even a 2600 connector. Those Happ fire buttons just like the original Arcade buttons.
An ahead thanks for scanning those manuals, may help me in troubleshooting. Also nice to have PDF or JPG scans for an interesting read. Other members here, I know would love a copy as well. Maybe post a link here on Racketboy? Again thanks for that offer.

Re: Neo Geo MVS-2 mini 13 arcade monitor swap... HELP! :)
This whole process is fascinating to me. I can't wait to see if swirlee can get a large LCD monitor in his cabinet. This might change the way I think about replacing arcade CRTs.
By the way, I think that MVS-2 13" mini arcade cab is the perfect size cabinet for home use. Standup cabinets are too big to move around and take up a lot of space. Bartop cabinets aren't big enough and take up a whole tabletop. Does anyone know where I can get plans for one of these mini arcade cabs? Jakobud has plans for the full size standup version. I'd love to build myself a cabinet like this one.
