I seem to have lost all of my memory cards (ugh... really sucks), and so I had to go out and buy a new memory card. Unfortunately, it refuses to save Japanese data! I thought it was a problem with my PS2, but it was able to save my American games just fine.
Any idea why this is? I was able to save Japanese games just fine before, but I had always used MadCats memory devices before now. Are Official Sony Memory Cards somehow region locked?
Can official US PS2 memory cards save Japanese data?
Re: Can official US PS2 memory cards save Japanese data?
That's odd. I have five official sony memory cards and all of them have at one point or another had japanese game saves stored on them. Sometimes the filename will be in random text but this doesn't affect the file in any way.

ditto...not to sure about the problem you are having(-_-) wrote:That's odd. I have five official sony memory cards and all of them have at one point or another had japanese game saves stored on them. Sometimes the filename will be in random text but this doesn't affect the file in any way.
Re: Can official US PS2 memory cards save Japanese data?
I hope they do!
While I was away for 5 years, my best friends brother who had my PS2 "lost" all the cases, manuals, my two control pads and memory cards. Somehow he managed to have all of the game discs. That's around 50 game cases he "lost".
Anyway, I have a few Japanese memory cards that I sure hope will work with my US (well, mostly Canada and a few US) games!
I guess it's the opposite problem, but similar.

Re: Can official US PS2 memory cards save Japanese data?
Yeah, I never heard of this happening before, but I had to see. It's really ticking me off, especially when it gives me a message I can't understand. The message always has a file size in it... but it can't be full. It's got no data on it except the one English game I tested on it!
Gonna try to get another memory card soon. If the same problem happens, I'll just assume it's a problem with my PS2... but I'm getting the feeling it's the memory card that's at fault.
At the very least, I hope it's the memory card at fault.

Re: Can official US PS2 memory cards save Japanese data?
Might seem like a silly answer... but make sure it's in Slot 1... some games don't see Slot 2...
Otherwise it should save just fine as long as there is enough room. I have multiple memory cards with U.S., PAL & Japanese game saves on the same Memory Card, heck some games will use the same Save file for Japanese/U.S. version of the same game!
Same is true with Dreamcast games.

Re: Can official US PS2 memory cards save Japanese data?
Never had a problem with the PS2 memory cards as long as they have a MagicGate logo on them. I use Sony and Nyco (Sanction by Sony) memory which work fine with mix of different country saves on the same card. In fact I have two saves of ICO , one NTSC and one PAL, both with the exact same Name and Icon on the card. Using the PS2 browser, can't tell them apart other then the date saved. There is also Virtua On and Space Invaders Anniversary (Japanese) on the same card.
Maybe your Memory card almost full? Even if you have the room, check for corrupt files thru the browser and delete, even try deleting one or two saves to move the memory allocation blocks around.

On the other hand, the Gamecube doesn't like multiple country saves on the same memory card.

Personally, I haven't had any issues with the Gamecube. I've put PAL, NTSC, and NTSC-J saves on the same memory card. I've even taken a save for one region, changed the game identifier and used it for a different region.CRTGAMER wrote: On the other hand, the Gamecube doesn't like multiple country saves on the same memory card.

I do have Japanese Loderunner on my combined U.S. saved Gamecube memory card. Nintendo site mentions something about formating or preparing a memory card based on country. Could be an issue if my save might eventually wipe out other saves.gtmtnbiker wrote:Personally, I haven't had any issues with the Gamecube.
