Bingo.
And Cannibal Corpse is in Ace Ventura. I don't think that makes it mainstream either.
Sucidal Tendencies had radio air play MTV play and gold albums. They even made it as high up as 52 on the Billboard charts they mostly were at 100 though.

Cannibal Corpse has only sold a million albums worldwide in total plus as far as I know only college radio air play and are they in Guitar Hero? They were used in Ace Ventura mostly because Death Metal was starting to become more popular with its roots mostly in Flordia plus as a joke.

But thats enough talk about music.

It is mainstream.
...for a Death Metal Band. Which is to say: Not.

They're certainly not Underground. Hell, you can get Cannibal Corpse t-shirts at Hot-Topic.

Well, Hot Topic is kinda a place that is meant to service non-mainstream tastes, in addition to mainstream ones...

I'd imagine. It's been a while since I've been to a Hot Topic - the store isn't mainstream enough for my city, apparently.

Lords of Acid did the Mortal Kombat soundtrack. Man, that was cool.

I'm not quite sure. In every Hot Topic I've been to they have nothing but T-shirts of Pop-Rock bands, Grunge Bands, some Punk Bands (but only the popular ones), and the only Metal Shirts they have are either bands like Metallica or new Metal bands shat out by big-name record labels (Cradle of Filth, Lamb of God, Mastodon, etc.)

Since I derailed this thread, I'll try to get it back on track. My main point was that Hardcore doesn't always mean Underground/Obscure. If I were to describe Hardcore I'd say it was a state-of-mind regardless of the game. Shit, someone can be a hardcore Peggle player. (Keep in mind, Peggle keeps score.)

Yes, but that makes you a Hardcore Peggle Player. Not a Hardcore Gamer. It means that you have a strong, unswerving devotion to Peggle - just as a Hardcore Gamer has a strong, unswerving devotion to the gaming world.

A Hardcore Gamer wouldn't be 'Hardcore' in just one area - they would have knowledge of all areas. A Hardcore Gamer, thus, wouldn't just be knowledgeable of the games put out by the biggest publishers.

Are arbitrary labels with no actual meaning and changeable by the public whim that important?
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
