GBA Movie Player and homebrew?

Post by noiseredux »

okay, so if you put PocketNES on the GBA CF card, and then launch a NES ROM, it will fire up PocketNES. So why is it that other homebrew games/emu's don't work on it? Or is there a way that I just haven't figured out yet?

Don't run the NES game... launch the PocketNES.gba or the Goomba.gba etc...

it doesn't seem to work like that though. That's my issue. If I try to launch a *.gba it just does nothing. If I put the PocketNES.gba on the card, and then launch *.NES it automatically launches the PocketNES emu for me. So.... there's obviously something stopping it from launching GBA homebrew, but also obviously there's some kind of workaround as it will launch that emu if you launch a ROM that's associated with it.

I'll have to look into it when I get home. But I'm fairly certain I've run my own code from the GBA Movie Player. Also I know for a fact I launch Goomba.gba directly and not from launching a .gb file.

I believe you have to concatenate the rom to the emulator which is what the GBA movie player does (At least that's what my M3 Perfect) does. See http://www.webpersona.com/goomba/tutorials.html

Concatenate = join two strings of characters together

Or atleast I think that is what it means - Im not a programmer, just someone who exploits things...

oh. Hmm. Never heard that term before. I've done a lot of screwing around with homebrew and stuff. But there's obviously a lot I don't know.

Exactly. It means to join. Binary files are essentially a bunch of 8 bit characters.

@noiseredux, did you even look at the link I provided?

briefly, yes. But that seems to apply to just flashcards in general. Doesn't seem to address the GBA Movie Player specifically... I'll take a closer look at that page when I have a chance. Thanks!
