My setups so far - thanks for looking

Post by Capcomwarrior »

I don't have a big game collection to show off, yet. I have very limited finances, so I decided to put much focus on systems that I can mod or burn games for (Saturn and DC). In the future, when I have more income, I would like to get more into collecting complete games and such. For now, I have some pretty decent hardware.

This is the monitor that I play all my retro (besides DC) stuff on:
Image
It is a 36" standard def flat (the picture makes it look rounded for some reason) screen CRT with component input. This is why PS2 is my preferred way to play standard def 2d/oldschool games. It may not be quite RGB, but it looks amazing and must be pretty damn close. Arcade games on PS2 compilations such as Samsho Anthology really feel like I have an arcade monitor in my living room. I was really excited when my parents decided to part ways with it instead of moving it to their new home in PA. Although it weighed a ton and getting it here was a hassle... its been worth it!

This is the setup I currently have on that monitor:
Image
I am allowed to have the PS2 and one other old system (currently Saturn) hooked up to that TV at a time, although the switch box allows me to slip in my laptop, via S-vid (for emulation) when I feel like it. (pictured below) I would like to get some sort of RGB to component option for my Saturn, but it seems kind of complicated, and the S-vid from the Saturn looks great for now.
Image
It may be related to the video card in my laptop, but the S-video out on it seems a bit more vibrant than S-video from other formats (saturn, N64, etc). It would look almost as good as the PS2 component does, except there is a little bit of the "bleeding" that you have with s-vid... the colors look real vibrant, though. -As with the Saturn, I would like to get a better video signal for my laptop on this TV (vga to component?), but for now this (s-vid) is great.

Back in our other bedroom we call the "game room", we have the Dreamcast setup and storage of other consoles, accessories, and parts.
Image
Our DC is VGA adapted to this wonderful 22" viewsonic flat (again camera makes it look rounded) screen CRT. Also, cheap logitech computer speakers for the DC's sound. (surprising not bad -decent bass at least) The picture (below) does not do the video quality justice.
Image
The p225f monitor was very top of the line for its time and beats every lcd or plasma (CRT as well) that I have hooked a DC up to. Very very sharp and vibrant!
Image
Just a better look at the setup. The shelving is also used for storage of other consoles that are not hooked up currently. (changes from week to week)
Image
A glimpse of some extra consoles, accessories, games, boxes, and parts that are either broken or just not in use lately.
Image
This poster is above the DC and other console storage center in the "game room". That was the only place I was permitted to put it up... I was very grateful to even be able to put it up there! Sorry, didn't get it in the full view pic very well.
Image
As I stated earlier, I have been focusing on burnable media, but these are the type of games I have been picking up (and hopefully will be getting more of in the future) for my PS2. Not much yet, but a decent enough start, I guess.

Now, last but not least... on the other side of the living room (across from the Sony CRT retro center) is where we do our HD gaming:
Image
Nothing crazy at all here. Just a 22" (maybe even 19") sharp lcd for our Xbox 360 needs. I did manage to pick up a "Ken" street fighter pad at Gamestop for pretty inexpensive about a month back.

There you have it. Our "gamehouse" doesn't even compare to some of the setups I have seen on here, but we do the best we can with what money we have.

Thanks so much for letting me share and taking a look! I've been looking forward to showing those monitors to someone who might have a bit of appreciation for them. If you don't, thats ok, I love em.

Great collection!

In case you didn't know, Dreamcast House of the Dead with a DC Lightgun will work on that beautiful CRT VGA monitor!

I love CRT monitors, and I'm not the only one around here who feels that way.
There are two things that bother me about your post though.

Get that poor, unloved model one Sega Genesis out of that drawer and hook it up. I see that Castlevania Bloodlines is begging for someone to play it. Don't worry about what you're "allowed" to do. Man up!

Woa! Why is that one hiding? Add another switchbox to your other great running systems.

The Trinitron SDTVs are nice. Keep that bad boy around as long as you can.

Also, you've got a solid set of PS2 retro collections there. :D

Hey, thanks for the compliments.

CRTGAMER - Good to know on House of the Dead... what about the Viewsonic monitor?

Samsonlonghair - Don't break my balls to much about what few restrictions I have. If you didn't notice, gaming is pretty well spread out all over our little apartment, so I'm not complainin a whole lot  .

The only reason that Gen model 1 is not hooked up is because I don't have cables for it. I did check and found that it is actually one of the good gen model 1s that doesn't say high def graphics. Its pretty great because that one was left in an abandon apartment at my friends job (at apartment complex). I gave my working genesis to my nephew to get him started (hes 7), since I had been playing the gen collection on 360 and emulating on my computer a lot. I would like to get connections for that model 1 and get my 32x plugged back in, but I am having a hard time finding the 32x cable for it.
You are right though, I am really missing Castlevania Bloodlines! My genesis situation is actually a somewhat complex dilemma that has been on my mind quite a bit lately.

emwearz - Yeah I loved giving the DC its own dedicated monitor, speakers, and pretty much... room. It really gives the setup a stand-alone arcade machine feel. Its kind like my getaway in there. Sometimes Ill just hang out in there manipulating and listening to music with a random game demoing on the DC screen. Great atmosphere!

Yes DC lightgun will work on a CRT VGA monitor. Did a comparison at my signature link concerning lightguns.
