Genesis SCART Issue

Post by Silentwulf »

I just hooked up my Genesis Model2 to my LCD TV via SCART. I have a scaler box to convert the signal through Component, but when I turn on the Genesis, my TV says Unsupported mode.

These are the parts I bought for the connection;

Could be the resolution size is unsupported. Other members have been reporting their VGA Dreamcast setup will not work on newer LCDs. That 640x480 mode DC puts out not supported, minimum being 800x600 res.

Could be the same scenario with your Genesis-Scart-Transcoder.
Not sure, but can you configure your transcoder to different higher resolution?

"brendanraymond" is tacking same headaches with a Saturn. Perhaps you two can join efforts and post and pass on information for the rest of us to learn and help.

Here is the link.

Well I did have my Dreamcast hooked up via VGA at one point, and it worked fine.
I'm worried it's a PAL issue.

That is good to hear, your LCD supports lower 640x480 mode resolution. You could be right about the PAL signal. NTSC Genesis can be found.

I would have a guess that you do, most LCD TV's support PAL/NTSC unless it is a really early release.

I tested the system on my Flatscreen Sony Trinitron, and it worked great.
So I'm guessing it's a problem with my LCD. Any ideas?

If I had to guess, I'd say that device doesn't do any scaling -- it simply transcodes the signal, and your display doesn't like 240p.

Look into a dedicated scaler like the Coosis HD Universal Converter, SCART to HDMI (or DVI with the right cable) @ 720p.

If you want scanlines or VGA be sure to check out the XRGB-3

CVS287 SCART TO YUV COMPONENT CONVERTER
This is the item I picked up on eBay. The description stated it did scale, but Im talking with the seller right now.

The Genesis did work properly using Composite on my LCD though.

im not that far ahead as you...

but i plan on picking up an AV reciever that can properly upscale 240p and up in 15kHz RGBs (or as low as 256×192) for when I want to play my master system. would need to have atleast 4 toslink audio connectors to go with that... and output full HD 1080p.

I havn't got that far yet though... i am prob going to go with onkyo... but who knows yet.
