weird problem with Super Mario Bros 3 (GBA)
alright I have Super Mario Bros 3 for GBA (so Super Mario Advance 4... sigh). Anyway, the game plays just fine. But I've noticed something very very weird. If I put the controller down and don't touch any buttons for say three minutes, the game goes to a black screen and just stays frozen. It almost looks like the game goes into sleep mode, but I can't wake it up. Anyone else experience this? It's not the worst thing in the world, but generally it means that I have to save & quit my game if I get up to pee or get a drink or something in fear that I might lose my game if I'm not quick enough about it.

Same thing happens to me. The first time it happened, my GB Player was new and I freaked out thinking it was defective. But the second time it happened, I mashed all the controller buttons in a panicked rage and the game 'woke up'. It is some kind of sleep feature.

woah -- so you DID get it to wake up? Okay, maybe it is some kind of sleep feature? Maybe I just don't know the right button-combo to wake it up (I don't have the manual).k.vlaros wrote:Same thing happens to me. ...off to google in hope of an answer.

HELLO: What I do like about the controls, though, is the Sleep Mode feature; if you press L or R on the Super Mario Bros./Mario Bros. select screen, the screen changes from the game select to a section titled "Options", and the two options are "Easy Sleep" and "Auto Sleep". Auto Sleep makes your game go to sleep after a period of inactivity (That's good if you don't always have it plugged in like I do when I'm not on the go,)
looks like this is an option that can be turned on/off in a semi-secret Options screen.

also found this: There is also the sleep mode, activated by pressing Select+L+R, so maybe it's the same 3 button combo to wake it up...?

A number of GBA games have a sleep mode that is activated with the L-R-Select combo, and I believe deactivated in the same way. I don't have Super Mario Advance 4, but it sounds like Nintendo added the auto sleep feature to that and maybe other later GBA games.

I think Sigma Star Saga had this feature too.
