Dreamcast: How to know if a game is a reseal

Post by sonikjesus »

Hey guys, I recently bought a copy of D2 on ebay. It was described as new and sealed. Problem is when I got it the wrap didn't look like the standard cellophane wrap for most cd games. Apart from this, the front part of the case has a lot of light scratches that look like they could have been created from wear. The manual also looks questionable. Furthermore, the discs all have light scratches too. What sucks is I already left the seller positive feedback. Anyways, anyone ever get a new copy of D2 or any game that has the bigger case for multiple discs? How was it wrapped?

Unless you bought it from a dedicated video game business, I wouldn't be too worried about someone trying to screw you over. Sometimes people get their hands on wrapped games and don't know if it's a reseal.

Of course, someone may still be trying to screw you over. It would be wise to contact the seller anyway, just to confirm that they were aware of the reseal. Also check their feedback and see if anyone has had similar problems. If you see a negative trend, you may want to contact ebay.

According to this guide, Dreamcast games with larger, multiple-disc cases were shrinkwrapped. From the other information you provided, it sounds like the game probably wasn't factory-sealed, but if it's shrinkwrapped, it isn't necessarily a resealed game.

Aside from the fact that 2 disc DC games were just generically shrinkwrapped, places like GameStop open their games and still sell them as "new." Many stores operate on the "new vs. used car" principle in that a car is still new even if it has 1000 miles of test drives on it. Your discs may be scratched because they fell out of the spindle in shipping and shifted around, I've had this to quite a few games unfortunately. Rarely are such scratches a problem for gameplay, though.

Report that bum to E-Bay or whatever sponsor he is under! Obvious with those lightly scratched discs are not new as advertised.

I just bought a sealed copy of Sonic Adventure. I am pretty positive this isn't a reseal as the case and disc were mint and all the inserts were there. Additionally, the case has that new jewel case feel, which is hard to explain, but as it lacks fine scratches,it has a very smooth feel to it. I realize the case might be new, but the disc was FLAWLESS, so I am happy. I thought when I got it might also be a repro, but I am not sure if they do that for DC games. Someone here may know.

In your case, the game in question is suspicious. You could possibly report the item as being different than the description, but as you already left positive feedback, you might not have that option. Always a good idea to thoroughly test and look over an item before leaving feedback.

That guide is handy. Thanks. Just to let you all know, he is offering me a partial refund. On a side note, I also bought a sealed new copy of Seaman fro him and that one looks pretty legit. Though it still is hard to tell, as I think Seaman was unique in its packaging.

Bigger cardbox with a microphone. Leonard Nimoy does a cameo.

Yeah, I got that box but haven't opened it yet. I don't really plan on playing it since it seems pretty demanding (first and only time I will do this).

Actually a slow game at first. Very weird, a strange talking human faced fish. As long as you "visit", do the aquarium chores and talk to it once in a while.
