Before Christmas we got hit with a lot of snow, about 2 feet. The day we were digging ourselves out, the oil burner decided to dump out hot water. It was just pouring out, as if a pipe burst. And it was HOT water, so the entire basement was completely steamed out.

AND the oil burner is in my band/game room, with all my equiptment and whatnot every where. It really sucked (obviously) and I had to move everything quickly. I was really afraid that all the steam was gonna damage electronics, or more probable, warp speakers. Luckily, nothing was damaged (except for my back from carrying the wet vac up and down the stairs a million times.

I know what that feels like too, in the end I just had a little LP damage though. The cracked tub was my nemesis

Your mom sucks  ... :?

Anyway, our hot water heater burst in November or December. It really sucked. Luckily all my stored games were above the floor (sitting on other boxes of various stored things).

When Ike blew through in 08, I had water raining from my ceiling in my apartment. Thankfully it started in the laundry room and I had a bunch of plastic from waterproofing stuff from Katrina, so I for things covered before water was dripping elsewhere. That was a a shitty night of emptying buckets, coolers, and wringing out towels. So yeah, I know whatcha mean. :(

Get stuff off the floor and in waterproof containers if you can.

I had to leave my Commodore 64 with 375 tapes, 411 disks, a couple of cartridges (including Shadow of the Beast), 1 printer, 6 joysticks, 4 disk-drives, 3 tape-loaders and a whole bunch of other stuff at my friends house, in another country when I moved abroad

needless to say, water-leak destroyed everything, a couple of years later

I never got to pick them up, I never got to say goodbye

had been collecting that from 1984-1999

15 years... down the drain...

My basement flooded too.

It took hours just to get the water levels down and now we need to replace the carpet.

What's worse is that my Mom's doll room was down there and we had to throw out a small fortune worth of stuffed animals...

Terrifying. I keep all my stuff in the basement here, and a lot of it is on the floor. Fortunately our basement is pretty well sealed and we're on the top of a hill. Haven't seen a drop, and the ground has been pretty saturated several times over the years. I really need to get some more shelves and tables to keep this stuff off the floor.

I thought this thread was going to be about vacuums.

Installing laminated wood flooring then coming home the next day with a 50 gallon aquarium leaking all over ruining the laminate. Lucky it was the last layers so didn't have to do the room all over again.

Gee, thanks for that bad memory. :o
