Genesis Model 2 - Sega CD connector

Post by dlmvii »

Can anyone post a picture of the connector on the side of the system that a sega cd plugs in to? My X'eye is broken, so I need to get a sega cd for the model 2 genesis, but I have a sneaking suspicion that part of my connector is broken off (It looks like there are 3 or 4 contacts that have been broken off) I would take a picture, but the system is in another city at the moment :(

You mean the end of the board in the Genesis?

Yeah, on the right side of the system...I hope I don't have egg on my face here...That is what connects a sega cd to a genesis right? The only sega cd I've ever used was in a combo unit, so I guess I don't know first hand

I believe so, thank you! On mine, above that large connector, it looks like there have been about 3 contacts snapped off, but i can't really be sure.

Like it is supposed to be like this:

______|¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯|____|¯¯|____

But the smaller bit is supposed to be there but is missing. If it's not supposed to be there though, that is good to know. I guess I don't have to buy a ridiculously expensive CDX as was originally planned

It is supposed to be just one solid row of contacts. Picture of yours?

Ig you take a look at the picture, right below the connector is that part that you believe has 'snapped off', you don't need to worry, they all look like that, it's not supposed to be a connector at all.

Ah yes, now I understand what you're talking about. If you mean the 3 little bars toward the back of the unit from the connector, yes those are just from where the board was snapped off of what was probably a larger cluster of boards during manufacture. As long as you have the continuous connector with 30 pins on it and the nicely rounded corners you're good.
