Well, it is about time for Nintendo to do some updates with their products; keep in mind the technology that powers the DS/DSi isn't that much advance, and the graphics are inferior (but not that much) than PSP.
I don't think iPhone is going to lure away gamers (short battery life due to multi-tasking) from the "real" game machines. But its low cost and easy games are going to draw plenty of "casual" gamers.
Some business analyst also predict that Nintendo will revamp their DSi Ware store and maybe Wii Ware store as well, to make it more streamline like the itune store and PSN store.

Re: DS2 Details Unveiled at GDC 2010
Would it be obvious for it to be backwards compatible with DS games or is something weird going to happen you'd think?

Re: DS2 Details Unveiled at GDC 2010
If they start porting Gamecube games to it, then I will drop whatever I am doing at the time and pre-order one. Gamecube emulation, or in this case, Gamecube ports, are what i want to see most from next-gen handhelds. Nintendo can do ports, but I'm predicting a GC emulator on the PSP2, especially since the Dolphin emulator is now open-source.

I see portable gaming eventually being completely taken over by the cell phone market. Cell is conveniently always with you packed full of games. I can see that "DS2" proposal being on the level with the accelerometer and other desperation features to compete with cell phone.skyknight wrote:Well, it is about time for Nintendo to do some updates with their products; keep in mind the technology that powers the DS/DSi isn't that much advance, and the graphics are inferior (but not that much) than PSP.

That is a possibility, and it is heavy dependent on the advancement of batteries. I mean, would you play a game on your cell if that uses up to 30% of battery within 30mins?CRTGAMER wrote: I see portable gaming eventually being completely taken over by the cell phone market. That all sounds fairly legit. I can't think of any significant changes they'd be likely to do hardware wise. What they really need is to get the software ironed out. Multiplayer, internet, and whatnot seriously needs improvement if it's going to stay completive.
Re: DS2 Details Unveiled at GDC 2010
The larger connected screens sounds pretty awesome. As does, the stronger processor and accelerometer, but they come as no surprise.
Things I'd like to see in the next DS:
1. Built in games. This is probably what I'd like to see most. Imagine 5 or so really addicting, simple, multiplayer games built into every DS i.e. Dr. Mario, Tetris, etc. I'd love to be able to just play with perfect strangers locally at any time.
2. Strong interactivity with the Wii and whatever the next Nintendo console is. This was a huge missed opportunity with the DS.
3. Dual screen touch capabilities shipped with two larger stylus'.
4. Rumble.
5. Virtual Console.
6. Analog controls.

You're assuming the PSP2 will be as homebrew-friendly as the PSP, and somehow I doubt it. It might get cracked eventually but not as fast the PSP. Anyway I'm waiting for 17days to storm this thread with his strongly opinionated argumentslisalover1 wrote:Nintendo can do ports, but I'm predicting a GC emulator on the PSP2, especially since the Dolphin emulator is now open-source.

...so should I go ahead and pick up my DSiXL or should I weather out the duration with my Lite? Man, Nintendo beats my bank account like a rented mule.
Yet I keep coming back for more.

Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
