Laptop Help

Post by Reverend »

I just got a laptop. It's a Dell Inspiron 700m with 1gb of ram. I'm not completely sure what's the best anti virus to use. Does anyone have any recommendations for a freeware anti-virus program? What do you use?

AVG Anti-virus 9.0 Free Edition is the best free anti-virus software in my humble opinion. :)

I agree, it's what I've been using on my two computers, and it's what I put all my family's computers for the past year or two.

I use Microsoft Security Essentials, and all I can say is that I've never had trouble with a virus. Whether this is because the program is good or I'm just able to avoid viruses, I'm not sure. Really though, being able see through malware is what I find to be the bigger issue.

this is also what i use. never had a problem with it and don't slow down your computer like norton or mcafee.

Yeah, that's probably the main reason I use AVG, it doesn't hog any resources. Its included link scanner is really nice, too. It'll block a site if it detects a threat on it. Of course, you can over ride and visit the site if you wish, but it's definitely a nice thing to have.

Quite ironically, Microsoft Security Essentials is very good. Made by the people who brought you Windows Vista and Windows ME. Don't believe me?
