Are there movies that you save for a special occassion?

Post by JokermanJohnny »

Being a movie enthusiast, I have some that range from good to mediocre to so bad its horrible. However, as I've watched a couple of movies, I got the feeling that there is something unique and special about it and watching it again and again would take away from that mystique. I want to know if any of you guys have movies that you watch on either a rainy day or a really special occassion?

Jesus Christ: Vampire Hunter

Seriously, I love watching this movie with friends. It's easily the greatest thing to ever come out of Canada.

When my wife and I first got together, we watched Little Miss Sunshine on a date, so we often watch that around the anniversary of our first date.

Also, we watch 200 Cigarettes every new years.

Most films I don't watch repeatedly though, with a few exceptions. I've seen the Princess Bride countless times, and will probably see it many more times. I've watched Bitter Moon on many occassions. Fight Club is a favorite, as is Pulp Fiction and Natural Born Killers. Titanic is another. My wife likes all those too, so that aids in their repeat factor.

I'll bite.

HARVEY/COLUMBO/UP!/MONSTER SQUAD when I'm feeling down

CHRISTMAS VACATION/HOME ALONE/FUNNY FARM/CHRISTMAS STORY/A CHRISTMAS CAROL on, you guessed it

STAR WARS TRILOGY when my friend Russ visits

FAWLTY TOWERS marathon on New Year's Eve

OFFICE SPACE/BASKETBALL/HALF BAKED when I use to get half baked (it's been quite a few years)

KITH marathon during the summer months

YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN during Halloween

BOONDOCK SAINTS during St.Patrick's Day

ROBOCOP, who really needs a reason to watch this?

Any Steven Seagal or JVD movie series for an awful action movie night.

One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest: is the movie that pretty much brought the whole family together, we just have a party dedicated to Jack Nicolson's character Randle McMurphy. We don't know why we have a party dedicated to him, but I remember my dad told me that he and my uncle where having a Keg party a day before my dad's marriage to my mother, they just happen to be drunk and say cheers to a Randle McMurphy poster.

Christmas Vacation/Christmas Story/Die Hard: That is for mostly for my family around Christmas

Rain Man: I watch this one when I miss my brother, my brother is not a yuppie or anything. I just happen to be in the same shoes as Dustin Hoffman's character, because I have Autism. I realize the shit that my brother has to go through because of my disability, so in a way I could relate to the movie.

The Goonies: This is a movie that I am trying to vault it, but I couldn't because its a movie when I am in a good mood, that happens most of the time. Plus, its the movie I feel the most nostalgic, and its also my all time favorite movie (2nd being Rain Man, and the 3rd being One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest)

It's hard to say because I don't go to the theatre as much as I want to. My pick for last year was a toss up between Inglourious Basterds and Up. As for this year, the Alice in Wonderland movie looks worthwhile...

I tend to watch Evil Dead 2 as a Christmas movie for a reason even I'm not sure of.
