How's the Retro Duo?

Post by shwisha »

I did some research and most people seemed pleased with the Retro Duo out of all the NES/SNES clones. I saw the FC3, which also plays Genesis games, but there where a lot of problems reported with that system.

I figured there'd be some people on here who used the retro duo and I wondered how it has treated you.

Thanks!

See that little search box at the top of the forum page that says "Google Custom Search". Type in "retro duo" and check all of the comments/advice you will get.

If you have some followup questions, then feel free to post them.

haha nice, didn't notice the google search box which gives much better results. I used the forum search page, which didn't give me very good results.

For best results, you should use both. Sometimes Google Search doesn't find certain posts that forum search does.

Another search option is to use google.

That is, www.google.com

I usually get kinda peeved about people telling you to search for something, but in this situation the Retro Duo has been widely discussed. I love mine btw.

I enjoy my RetroDuo as well... from what I understand it has one of, if not, the best compatibility out of all the clones. I do recommend using an official SNES pad over the included pads however.

the SNES is just about perfect, the NES is good with a few games that sound a little different. If you want a clone, it's pretty much the way to go. At the same time, the FC3 is the best Genesis clone on the market, the sound is actually better than all but the original HD Graphics model 1 Genesis. What's an HD graphics model 1 you ask? Why, how about I show you with my own HDG Genesis that serves as the representative model on Wikipedia :)

Roll that beautiful bean footage:

ahhhh, HDG model 1, gotta love it.

That's an awesome picture. I always thought that my CDX would cover all my Genesis needs but that really makes the model 1 look appealing.

Do NOT buy this if you plan to use it for nes games. It is a good snes clone (I currently use it to play snes games) But a baaaad nes clone. The compatibilty is good, but the nes slot is really fragile. I have had 3 pins break off from it. You cannot use nes controllers. (Sexual innuendo) The snes slot feels loose and natural, but the nes slot for the retro duo is too tight and the cartridges are impossible to get out.

you just gotta be careful and not just yank it out like a mad man. For some strange reason, I seem to be the only person on the planet aware of the "work it side to side" method when removing games. As you pull (and this works with ribbon cables, wider controllers and memory cards, etc. etc.), pull from one side (lengthwise), then the other, and again, and again and you'll slowly work it out. I've had an FC Twin for a while and it's been fine, It's just hell to get it to work when you get a game with pins that don't reach the cartridge edge (some were just designed that way).
