What do you guys use to clean your LCD/Plasma screens?

Post by fuctfuct »

I just tested some Monster kit i found in my closet before i go to my new HDTV. I used a fairly dirty LCD monitor and lightly brushed most of the loose dust off before spraying the "Monster ScreenClean" (de-ionized water and proprietary polymers) onto the provided microfiber cloth. Using a circular motion i wiped it down. The screen is much cleaner now. However i can't get it to be %100 streak free. If i look for them i can just barely notice the streaks under normal light. They are not seen at all when it is displaying an image. But when i take a flashlight to the screen i can see many streaks :(

I tried again using a back and forth motion .. same thing. Some old streaks are gone, some aren't, and there are new ones in different places  hehe

I always have 90% (about) isopropyl alcohol on hand, so I went out and got a gallon of distilled water and a couple of microfiber cloths. I made a 50/50 mix of alcohol/water and lightly dampened the cloth with it and wiped the screen. The alcohol dries really fast, but I went over some spots with a dry part of the towel. Results were a perfectly clean screen with out any streaks.

Weiman e-tronic wipes seem to work really well for my very fragile LCD TV.

Clean white T-Shirt and tap water. Seriously. I have a 4 year old with sticky fingers who loves to "point" (touch) my LCD and leaves little fingers all the time.

Just lightly wet the end, lightly press, and wipe. I usually do this after the TV has been on for a little while then turn it off to clean. The heat helps the water dry reducing streaks.

My macbook came with a soft-cloth, I do not know the name of the material in English, but I spray water over it and then wipe my screen.

Kingmohd, it's called a microfibre cloth. That's what I use. Standard soft cloth for the piano black bezel, and microfibre for the screen. Duster for the rest of it.

Don't be wiping 'till you done did some dustin.'

1. Turn off your display.

2. Cast some light on your display to ensure you've removed all dust, grim, prints, and blemishes.

3. Gently wipe surface with swiffer duster. These are safe.

4. Mix your iso (70%)/distilled water solution.

5. Lightly dampen a clean microfiber cloth in the mixed solution and lightly buff in a circular motion. The cloth should be clean and hand washed in distilled water - it's cheap people. Machine washing = minerals and fabric softener residue.

Done.

If you say it works for you then I wont argue that, but tap water will usually leave horrible streaks on LCD screen.

Thanks for the tips. Have any of you ever checked afterwards with a really bright LED flashlight with all other lights off? Maybe there are streaks you just can't see them lol.

My HDTV looks perfectly clean until you use one on it. Then it looks incredibly dirty. I can get pretty anal about these things and i promised myself i would never look at my TV like that but i did :(

The worst thing for me is the harsh sunlight, it will unveil anything that's on the screen. Like I said, I had good results with the distilled water.
