splitting an n64/snes/gcn AV cable?

Post by AppleQueso »

In a somewhat ongoing effort to never have to unhook a console again, I'm wondering if it'd be possible to make a single A/V cable split into 3, so I can use it with the N64, Gamecube, and SNES at the same time.

My idea is to simply get 3 A/V cables like this one

and hack them together so that one end would have the usual composite cables and the other would have three connectors instead of just one. Is this possible? practical?

I dont think there is enough power in the cable for that to work. In theory you could get a bunch of Ycables and do it that way.

Universal System Selector ...

I currently have 13 systems hooked up with 2 system selectors on one 42" LCD TV.

I already have an A/V switchbox, I'm just trying to save a little bit of room on it.

You would only be able to have the cable plugged into one console at a time anyway. Otherwise the video would get dimmer and the sound quieter. So there is absolutely no point in this mod.

This is what I was wanting to know, figured as much, thanks.

I guess I'll have to look into doing multiple switchboxes after all

Well you could do that with 3 cables into one RCA/Svideo/Etc... but it would require you to make your own switch box in between the 3 to 1... so you might be better off buying another official switch box anyways.

If your TV supports it go S-Video on the N64 and Component on the cube. Gamecube component cables are pricey but worth getting 480p.
