What annoys me is the constant piling on of COD4/other recent popular games that often happens on retro-forums. COD4 is at least as significant a game this generation as Contra or Sonic or Mario (or name your favorite classic) was in its time. It deserves its praise in part because of graphics (which was also true for the praise given to those classics once upon a time) but also because of its gameplay, innovation, care in design/programming, and just plain fun level.
You will not change my opinion of it or anything Sega related. Ever.
Here we get to the root of the problem. I thought your post was inviting open discussion/debate. I guess it was just a chance to spout off fanboy-whining. If you think everything Sega shits is gold, we can't have a conversation.

Sonic The Hedgehog 2006. It is referred to as such because it shares it's title with the first game.
oooh, you mean the one I've seen released for 360? I always figured it was just a remake of the original game. It's actually an original game with the same title?
Yeah. It had one scene in the ending (I won't spoil anything), that pissed off a lot of people, so that also made them hate it. Granted, said scene was...different, but it's just a game. Let it go.

Also, just because I like Sega, that means we can't have a conversation? I respect your opinion, I just said you won't change mine.

I didn't say like, I said "shits gold."

And yes we can have a conversation, but we can't have the one initiated in your first post.

Then we'll move on. I'm not out to start a pointless flame war.

I still care about graphics. I guess what bothers me is that people equate realistic graphics with being better graphics. I find realism technically impressive, but whether realistic or not, I'm looking for style. I've been raving lately about Grid Runner Revolution, which I think is one of the best old school throwbacks/psychedelic mind trips I've played in a long time. Part of what I love about it are the graphics and sounds, which are not what your typical gamer would call good graphics. Nevertheless, it's designed to give you a unique sensory experience and the graphics are integral to that.

And I also like Call of Duty 4's realistic graphics because I think they suit the subject matter very well. The game looks like modern warfare, just like it says. It gets pushed above the typical realistic game graphics because there is excellent level design, and the graphics are appropriate to the content. They also have stylish text/menus/etc that add to the overall feel, and unique levels like the ones where you are bombing from a remote aerial location. That was actually really disturbing more because it reminded you of how much modern warfare actually looks like an old videogame and how easy it is to distance yourself from your victims when you are removed a step like that.
