Today's Gamers

Post by ReddMcKnight »

I know, I know. All this has probably been said before, but I figured I'd post my own rant about it. Today's Gamers are too freakin' concerned about graphics and not gameplay!! They also raise hell when a game is too hard for them! For cryin' out loud, did no one play games like Mega Man 2 or Contra (NES)? Take Sonic The Hedgehog 06 for example. It was hard, so it was judged harshly, and no one liked it. I think that's a load of bull. It was an excellent game offering a challenge not seen in games since the days of the NES. While I will admit it had some glitches, can you honestly expect a game to be perfect? Come on!! Every game has at least ONE glitch. Look at how messed up Fallout 2 was when it was first released, but people still loved it. Anyway, Sonic Unleashed and Sega itself was also criticized because they decided to try something new. Since when is it a crime to do that, especially with something you own? Anyway, getting back on subject, today's gamers always have something to bitch about. Show just one of them a game like Mega Man 1 for the NES and see what happens. They also don't seem to realize that if it wasn't for games like Super Mario Bros., they wouldn't have they're precious Call of Duty 4. I realize I can't change these types of gamers, and I'm not trying to, I'm just saying it would be nice if I could walk into a gaming store just once and hear someone talk about the older days of gaming. Anyway, I could go on forever, but you guys are probably sick of me by now, so I'll stop here.

P.S.
The 32X and the Sega CD did NOT suck!!

I personally don't even like these fancy shmancy 3D graphics. When I look at something like (to use yr example) Call Of Duty 4, it seems almost boring to me. Yeah, yeah. It looks real. Great. But where's the charm? I just got Minish Cap yesterday. Now THOSE are awesome graphics (to me)!

I bet you were a graphics whore when you started out too. In fact, I'd bet most of us here upgraded from Atari to Nintendo or from Nintendo to SNES/Genesis (and so on) due in large part to better graphics.

What's wrong with having equal appreciation for Contra and Call of Duty 4? I certainly would rank both games very high on my all time favorites list. Getting someone who was raised on a PS2 or 360 to appreciate games from the 8-bit/16-bit days is akin to getting people born after the 1960s to appreciate old black and white or silent films. It would be VERY well worth their while to do so, but it just isn't something everyone can do.

Also, citing Sonic 2006 and the 32X do not help your argument. Both were honest to goodness failures completely on their own merits.

dsheinem, you have a valid point. But the thing is this, I'm having a hard enough time dealing with robots trying to eat my medication... I really don't want to have to learn to appreciate new graphics.

I never said there was anything wrong with liking both. It's just that when people think Call of Duty 4 is a god-send or something, it annoys me. Graphics are not everything in a game. In fact, they rank lowest on this list of what's most important in a game. One specific game, Valhalla Knights on the Wii, was panned because according to critics, it was "ugly". I hate critics and everything about them, and being a critic myself, I am a walking contradiction, so you don't have to point that out. Also, you can say Sonic 06 sucked all you want. You will not change my opinion of it or anything Sega related. Ever.

Sonic The Hedgehog 2006. It is referred to as such because it shares it's title with the first game.

oooh, you mean the one I've seen released for 360? I always figured it was just a remake of the original game. It's actually an original game with the same title?
