I don't know if it's just me or my local area or what, but I've noticed lately that NES consoles seem to have become rather scarce. I went looking around all over town the other day, found a Saturn, a TurboGrafx 16, and even a 3DO, but no NES. I did find a few of those famiclones (the RES and Turbo Duo) but that doesn't really count.
I was thinking that maybe it was thanks to that stupid stadium events auction combined with the average population's extreme lack of reading comprehension, but upon pondering that I flashed back to a discussion with the owner of a local game store (which doesn't sell very many games anymore sadly) who told me that what NES consoles he gets in have been selling really fast. This was before said ebay auction.
So, anybody know what's up? Why the sudden public interest in the NES?
Where'd all the NES systems go?

Okay I've been seeing this acronym popping up a lot, especially on discussions of modern famiclone consoles, but I still don't know what it means.vlame wrote:crappy noac's?
I suppose I can take a guess... is it...
Nintendo of America Console? Is that what the acronym means?

NOAC == Nintendo On A Chip.
It refers to those Famicom clones like RetroDuo that use the NOAC.

Still doesn't explain the sudden seeming lack of NES consoles.

Re: Where'd all the NES systems go?
I'm in Northern Wisconsin and there's a Pawn Shop in town with tons of video game stuff but they think they have gold on their hands - it's way over priced. I've searched a few times amongst it all but haven't found anything of value. They have NES carts but no original systems, even though they have a few of most the others... I wish I could find some good games there but they just don't have them, it's depressing. You walk in and see all these games and then you look and it's like "Oh... Sonic... Madden.... Mario... etc..."
Not that they're not good games from time to time but nothing of good value.
Same thing happens with garage/yard sales. Seeing games on a table is exciting of course, but when you get there and they suck it's more depressing than not seeing them at all.

I live in Ashland off of lake Superior at the top of the state - I can't imagine anyone from IL coming all the way up here for something like this. Just look around harder in neighboring towns/cities. I'm sure there's something closer to get excited about. At the very least go to the nearby Goodwills and Salvation Armies for a hope of some games.jmanx81 wrote:I here ya on that. I feel the same way. What store is it that your talking about? oh- you mean these?
When i went to see if i could get my 360 repaired, i was met with a guy in a shed full of gaming stuff. Everything you could ever want in crazy quantities. He takes busted systems, or ones that run and referbs them. Then sells them on craigslist or ebay for an inflated price. Although it sucks because he is doing a great job at picking up all the consoles in the area, he is also giving them new life. Kinda torn.
oh- and you can't tell from the picture, but that is stacked two deep. Master system above it. Snes to the right. 360 to the left. Ps3 on the floor. Maybe some atari stuff in the background there.
