Mega Man 10 a letdown?

Post by Beets »

My friend tells me that the music is lacking and the bosses both unoriginal in design (Sheep Man, Pump Man), weapon, and technique. Not that the game isn't fun or a challenge, just that nothing stood out to him as innovative or exciting. The lack of playable loli also disappointed him, but that's just creepy. -_-;

Well, is it worth the money? I'm leaning toward a no. . .

I've definitely enjoyed the game (though I am a die hard Mega Man fan), but I wouldn't call it exceptional by any means. What the game lacks in music I feel it makes up for in level design, and I actually quite liked the new cast of boss characters (well, more and less).

And if it's innovation you're looking for, I'm surprised you didn't quit Mega Man a long time ago.

As a longtime diehard Mega Man fan, I was disappointed at first, but I'm liking it more as I play it... but I'm still disappointed by certain parts. Yeah, the music's a little lackluster, and I'm personally not very fond of the bosses, but the challenge is solid and the selection of weapons is mostly good, but it's basically a continuation of Mega Man 9 with a few technical improvements.

So, if you like Mega Man 9, you'll like Mega Man 10. Plus, MM10's replayability factor is way higher than most other MM games, so if you like the game at all, there'll be plenty of reasons to come back to it.

The only things that really truly bug me are the weak music, the weak ending, the fact that I personally don't care much for the robot masters (though there's nothing wrong with them), and the fact that CAPCOM HATES YOU AND WILL NOT GIVE MEGA MAN HIS SLIDE AND CHARGE SHOT BACK. Also, playing as Proto Man is usually not so fun because his benefits DO NOT begin to negate his drawbacks.

::ahem::

I like everything about the fortress stages, though; the bosses are fun and the music gets better, so there's a big plus.

Anyhow, I'm rambling. MM10 is certainly one of the better Mega Man games even though certain aspects are disappointing, and there's a lot of replay value. Use this information as you will.

Now give me a 16-bit Mega Man, like Mega Man & Bass! C'mon, Capcom, make it happen!

Maybe I'm just a retro curmudgeon, but I prefer the 8-bit look of Mega Man, though it's becoming clear that Capcom needs to upgrade to 16-bit if they keep making robot masters like Nitro Man who end up looking kinda like a blob because the finer details get lost in 8-bit.

I wouldn't mind 16-bit, but I haven't liked the appearance of Mega Man (not Mega Man X, mind you) in any incarnation other than the NES games and Mega Man 7 for the SNES. MM8 and Mega Man & Bass make him look too gangly; The Wily Wars and that one Game Gear game look strange, and the PC games... actually, I prefer the look of Mega Man in the PC games to MM8, though he's still a little goofy.

I'm with you on that one. Anyways, from what I'm hearing, there's no real want for ANOTHER sequel. Or is there?. . .

Mega Man is my all-time favorite video game series, but it either needs an injection of wild creativity (which could cause general fan outrage if it's too different), or they should wind things down and give a fitting end to the series.

I say they go until Mega Man 12 and then call it quits. MM11 can test the waters with a little something different and setting up a little more plot, and then MM12 can go nuts with THREE castles and huge references to previous games and officially connect the original series with the Mega Man X series, and even the Zero series.

I mean, X and Zero were created in the original series timeline; I'd love to see one final classic Mega Man game that involves how and when X and Zero were created, and what ultimately happened to all the original series' characters.

And then they should make Mega Man X9, in which X discovers a capsule where Proto Man has been sealed away for a century.

I think every Mega Man fan wants to see this.
